I am approaching the deadline on decide whether or not to buy the aftermarket warranty for the 2011 9-5 I bought. I would love some opinions, especially since I am not sure how much of what is "excluded" makes it worth buying.
Costs are the following:
24 month / 24,000 miles $1,090.00
36 month / 36,000 miles $1,480.00
48 month / 48,000 miles $2,040.00
60 month / 60,000 miles $2,830.00
These are zero deductible plans.
Part of me is ok with self-insuring, but maybe I am being foolish with that.
My thinking is getting the warranty is imperative. But maybe not. I'm interested to read what others think.
What I do know is that the GMAC rates are high. I can go through my bank (USAA) and get better rates. The company is not GMAC, but the coverage and benefits are the same as far as I can tell.
indies wont work, it has to be a dealer. I have gmpp and even the local caddy/buick/chevy dealer wont touch saab anymore (they were saab). Your best bet would be IMO the dealer where you bought the car from.
And that brings up the part of, if there are no dealers around, where are you gonna get the car serviced at?
My personal opinion would be forget the car, given so many if points.
Yeah sorry, warranty. Sucks because I was THIIIIISSS CLOSE (smash thumb and index together) on trading in my 9-3 for a '10 9-5 aero loaded to the guills... then this thing happened...
Any repair shop that has a federal tax ID number. So you are not limited to only Saab service. You can go to any of the big boys ( GM, Ford, Toyota etc. ) they all recognize this warranty.
I am very much going to buy a warranty from my dealer friend when I get my 10' 9-5 Aero next week.
He told me that if I bring it to his dealership under warranty if his guys won't / can't fix it it is on them to send it somewhere to get fixed. At their cost. You can also buy the warrantee and return it pro-rated if you hit a serious wall.
This is going to sound very lame especially on a car forum like this but.
Is there a Consumer Reports review or any rating on any of these? I remember hearing one of them was quite good ... like GE or some big un'.
Guy I worked with had an Alfa 164 and he loved the car, he bought it from our Saab dealer in about 1986 or so. I remember him taking the Saab dealer to court after an engine failure, he brought me a few pics over of the inside of the cylinder and asked me "what was wrong with this" and I remember saying easy ... they didn't cross hatch the walls when they put in the new rings" and I guess he figured if even I could figure out what was wrong, actually what I did was confirm what the local Alfa wizzard told him, and believe it or not, he was still driving that car when I retired like 4 years ago.
I am pretty sure he kept the Alfa going through these warranty policies.
Is it possible some are better than others and don't cost an arm and leg or make you jump through hoops. Weird, this guy was a PhD, and not necessarily a "car guy" at all but he loved that Alfa. I can't imagine having a 22 year old automatic (I think), Alfa as a daily driver and it was the only car he had.
Wow I so loved the 164S, but dreamed of a spider. I learned to drive on our GTV. Funny to think it and the 9000 were platform siblings.
