Anyone ever attempted to fit a different gearbox in their car? I was thinking a Getrag 6-speed would be nice.

I can't see how any other gearbox could possibly fit on a classic 900.

It's a pretty unique layout....

hmm... but how do these guys with V8's manage? Surely they have replaced the gearboxes.

Yeh, might be an option if you wanna convert to RWD. There is nothing you can do with FWD though....

If you were going RWD a nice 6-speed Hollinger sequential would do me....

If you want to chuck the engine away as well then that's a different story!

That should prove to be even more reliable than Pete's 900...

Keith,
Im thinking of buying anything made by British Leyland in the early eighties as im sure this will be more reliable than my 900 turbo!!

Pete.

If you want a 6-speed gearbox for your c900, then that's not a problem - Gasparatos Automobile offer sequential 6-spd boxes for the 900, but of course, pricing is SLIGHLTY on the high side

For a strenghtened Saab gearbox, contact Jörgen Eriksson - you name it, he builds it.

Hmm, does he have a website or do I just have to contact him?

I could use that too.

I think the email address is e.t.t@swipnet.se and I add a quote from a previous posting:
"£700 for a strong 900 manual box.
It is a 91-93 box (the strongest OEM boxes) with uprated pinion bearings. The only problem is that this box and the other more aggressive variants are only availible direct from Sweden."

hey does anybody know where I can get my hands on one of those 6 speed boxes for the C900. I have seen them for the NG900's but never for the C900. I would love to find something like this for my car. although it is not a 900 it is pretty close. it happens to be a 1974 99 with a 16v Turbo waiting to be shoehorned in.

thanks

I found this whilst trawling Net.

It says suitable for F25 box (GM) which probably isn't the 900 Classic.

Wouldn't this lead to the same problems that plague the c900 gearboxes? ie. Weakening the gearbox by fitting extra an extra ratio into it.
