: will this work
hvaclander 23-11-11, 06:36 AM So im getting a 2.5 cat back ehaust made up by a friend of mine and i was thinking about re-useing my stock viggen muffler. so my question is, is there any difference in the muffler that gs sells and my stock one? and would it be ok to use a straight pip where the pre-muffler is? thanks
lowbudgethero 23-11-11, 10:24 AM It should be fine as long as the muffler is in good condition
hvaclander 23-11-11, 04:59 PM the car has 65xxx on it i think it will be. thanks for the reply
grkguy89 23-11-11, 06:05 PM you will be bottle necking the exhaust at the end by doing that
it would be better to buy a 2.5" muffler instead
what you're asking will work, but wont be as efficient as getting a performance muffler
hvaclander 23-11-11, 06:07 PM is there a place that just sells just a proformance muffler?
grkguy89 23-11-11, 06:12 PM 2.5" performance muffler (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=2.5%22+performance+muffler)

Wasn't the stock Viggen a fairly free flow Remus?

Saab sold a free-flowing Remus exhaust for the Viggen, the Viggen Sport Exhaust, but it wasn't stock.

Ah... thanks. That's what I was thinking of.
byastremski 25-11-11, 07:31 PM i took a saab sport exhaust and my stock viggen exhaust and hacked the tips off, then just had someone weld the viggen tip on the saab sport... problem solved....
BobSaabit 25-11-11, 09:15 PM Wasn't the tip still in the wrong location? You need to take a bit of a turn to get the Viggen tip in the right place in the bumper.
grkguy89 26-11-11, 10:51 AM nah just need to bend the hangers to make it sit in the right location
byastremski 26-11-11, 06:39 PM not if you take the bend with it... i just marked them both and had them welded in the same manner...

The reason I ask is that I'm looking at doing the same thing... so you cut it at the straight portion just past the muffler, did a slight rotate, and re-welded it ? Did it end up much lower ? Would you have a photo of the rear of the car and the tailpipe?
hvaclander 27-11-11, 08:28 AM this is helping me so much thanks guys. i just have to find a sport muffler now that i can put the viggen tip on.

Exactly, when I was looking at the two of them i realized thats what i would have to do because the bends are totally different... I will see if i can dig one up....

In all reality the only reason i went with the saab sport is because it was stainless steel and had the availability... I believe if you wanted to just get a more aggressive sound out of it you could eliminate the center muffler on the viggen exhaust because the saab sport is all straight pipe right up to it...
The muffler canister is very close to the same shape....
