The side mirrors on the 2011 9-5 are able to fold in when you press the stick for the side-mirror adjustment down.
However, in the "Config" menu within the info-system, one of the options under the "Vehicle" portion allows you to turn "Auto Folding Mirrors" on or off.
Initially I thought this referred to the side-mirrors folding in themselves when the car is turned-off. So I turned the setting on. Nope, that's not it.
Have you kept the setting on and restarted your vehicle and then shut it off again to see if they would fold in on the second attempt? Apparently, some things need one full "actuation" before they will work properly. This happened to me with another setting.
Autofold is achieved by holding the lock button on the keyfob when locking the car. Hold it for a few seconds and the mirrors fold. Hold the unlock button a few seconds and they will return to their normal position.
Aha! That makes more sense now; I tried a few cycles of the car but wasn't able to get the mirrors to fold with just the usual lock-and-walk-away procedure.
Will do what you said post-work today bmwrider Thanks!
