I wondered why the outside ambient temperature reading on my dash was slowly dropping as it got slowly warmer outside so I got underneath to check the sensor but it wasn't there.
I found it hanging by a single wire further up amongst the numerous cables (god knows how it got there?!?) so I promptly cleaned it, rewired the connectors and hoped for the best. It didn't work.
It stays in the mounting and is wired up but the readings are a few degrees lower than reality when stood still but drop rapidly when moving (down to -23 at 40MPH).

Do I need to simply replace it or is there a fix/solution/something I didn't do?

This component is attached to the spoiler grille and is easily damaged by flying stones. it is not an essential component but if you want accurate readings then replacement is the only fix.

I figured as much, thanks for clearing it up. It'd be nice to have it working properly so i'll source a replacement.
