Hmmm, a turbo'd Sportage for $25K ? Tempting ain't it ?

It is VERY tempting, squared right against the forester.

And its sad but they probably have done a much better job at turboing the engine than subaru, who I have to say is disgraceful compared to saab. (turbo lagg, maintenance frequency, fuel economy)

Alas, I would not buy it, know why?

I have decided that I will be saving all of my pennies for the release of the 2013 9-3 next year. Trading in the forester for some pure 100% saabage.

I've decided that I cannot fulfill both of my wants with a Crossover, that is the need for sports car handling fast acceleration and fueleconomy, while also possessing the rugged ability to get me up to camp and go hunting in.

Thus I will be dumping the forester for the new saab, and probably getting an old tacoma for the ~10 times a year I actually need the off road ability. The forester can do both reasonably, but not well enough to keep me from craving something better on both ends.

I did not feel very much lag when I test drove a 2010 wrx....although I didn't get on it too much.

The WRX has a different engine tune ~265hp I believe..

In the forester turbo spool is relatively slow, peak boost doesn't hit till 2800 RPM... The 4 long gears means it can take a while to get there as it usually waits for boost to kick in instead of downshifting unless you really get on the pedal.

Looks nice. But:

KIA Front 41.4 leg room Rear 37.9 leg room
Saab 9-5 Front 42.4 Rear 36.6
Volvo XC70 Front 42.6 Rear 35.2

I suppose I could drive the Kia from the back seat...

No, you're talking about my wife. I think my new-driver son drove with her twice and now refuses to drive if my wife is in the car.

The strange part here is that even though the XC70 is supposed to have .2" more front leg room, I find the leg space in the 9-5 ample (sometimes I even move the seat forwards a bit) yet the space in the XC70 is a little limited (I wish for another inch or so).

This could possibly be my brother's next car. This or it's bigger brother, the Sorento.

Which 9-5? the OG or NG?
and how is it "fair" to compare a 25K loaded Kia with a 9-5 or XC70, both of them are probably well over 40K for a comparably equipped one.

I'm guessing MacNoob meant the OG 9-5 wagon (<2010MY) as that was his previous ride.

Not looking at price, just amount of space. For $25k you can get a new KIA (well, I bet it wouldn't be any $25k by the time you got it out of the dealer), a one-year old 9-5, or a three-four year old XC70 (which is what I replaced my 9-5 with).

Yes, spec is for OG 9-5.

Okay, well maybe a two-year-old 9-5. Plenty of '08s at around $21k. I DID find an '09 with 5,000 miles on it for $20k list though - it was in Michigan and would have cost under $22k out the door.
