im looking for a particular sound...

basically i want something that sounds post-apocalyptic, say, something that would paint the mental image of an abandoned wasteland. the surviving people have resorted to living in the charred remains of buildings still standing... if that makes sense. :cheesy:
the only bands i have for reference points would be Sybreed, Hacride, and Century. they all seem to have "that sound" im looking for.

anyone know some other good bands like that?

I've got a friend who does some music like this. He has had several band names but the ones that are good are Anathematize, Murder on the Dancefloor, and Returning We Hear the Larks. He's got some decent stuff. I'd recommend youtube for him

Umm...maybe some other ideas

With Blood Comes Cleansing
WhiteChapel
A Thousand Times Repent

I hope it helped a little

Im not sure if the feeling you're looking for translates to the feeling I get when thinking about what you're looking for, but Type O Negative has a pretty down, hopless sound to it.

Another specific song that paints that exact image is Amon Amarth - And soon the world will cease to be

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zfW7Ba5JOI

There are a few other AA songs that are similar in feeling....Runes to my memory, Fate of Norns, Cry of the Blackbirds

Type O Neg are definitely "throat slitting" material. Have you listened to any Joy Division? Not strictly metal but very glum and soul searching.

Have you tried the last.fm 'similar' link and spotify 'related artists'?

http://www.last.fm/music/Sybreed/+similar

It is great fun finding music on spotify like this. Start on something you like and work through the related artists.

Both spotify and last.fm both roughly agree on the list above too!

Not metal, but it seems to fit your description:

"The Drug"

Sounds like Marian Carey or Katy Perry to me? Maybe do a search for them?

If you want something a bit more brutal and technical (and fast)... try Aussie band Devolved - most of their stuff fits in with what you're after.

I would say that the lyrics back that up, but you can't really understand them that well..... ;)

I can't link to myspace here, but you might be able to find stuff through... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devolved_(band))

In Flames is always a good choice. The older the better for what you're looking for.
