Hey everyone,
I have been thinking about getting a set of coil-overs for my 9-5. I'm getting into the stance scene, and I found two reasonable options for coils. Does any one have any experiences with D2 or K-Sport coil-overs? Right now I am leaning towards the D2, they are $100-200 more then the K-Sports but they are rebuildable. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Those D2s look really really similar to the K-sports. In many cases unfortunately, the same [parent company will manufacture parts and re-color and re-brand them to sell on another site under the guise of being a different product. The price will even be different but in reality it is the same exact setup, so be wary of those Asian companies. On D2's site, they list the SAAB 9-5 fitment for 98+ which seems wrong. The hub design changed in 2002 and it usually requires components with different geometry. Ironically, k-sport had the fitment listed the same way on their site for their GT coilover for our cars. I emailed them and asked how they fit all cars 98+ with that coilover setup, and they emailed me back and said it was a typo that needed to be corrected I keep checking the k-sport site however, and they have not fixed it. I just emailed the D2 company and posed the same question so we'll see what they say...
Cheers

So they emailed me back pretty quickly and stated that the coilovers are only designed to fit 98-2002 which is STILL wrong because the new hub design started in 2002! Terrible...
I had the K-sport Kontrol on my car for about 6 months.
They work very well but a tart too harsh for my liking, esp
in the rear. Mine is a daily driver.
Sold them to a fellow 9-5 owner and went back to my previous
set-up of Abbot springs and Bilstien Sports.
Must say the coilovers were way way better in terms of steering
response and going thru fast sweeping corners.
The K-sport coilover can be specified for 98-01 and 02-05 models.
They have 3 different fronts to fit the right model. Why they have 3,
I have no idea but I specified the one that fitted my 2005 9-5.
The 2 holes at the bottom are of different diamensions. IIRC, i took
the one with 72mm spacing between the 2 holes.
Search the board for a thread about coilovers where I contributed
some photos of my car.
If you have decided on the K-sport and need any other info to choose
the correct one, let me know if I can be of any help.

Wheels are? I know they are RS4 reps, but I haven't seen any that would fit 5x110. Custom drilled bolt pattern/hub?
yes, redrilled the centre bore and used wobble bolts. These wheels are PCD 112x8.5x18 ET 38mm
In this pic, do you have the K-sport coilovers installed or the Abbott/Bilstein combo?
The picture in my avatar is the one with the coilovers and BBS CH. The one you posted was with Abbott / Bilstein B8s
You say the K-sports were too harsh. Could you not adjust the dampening/rebound to the softest setting and have it comfortable?
Even at the softest settings, they were too harsh for my liking.
They have been on my friend's car for about 8-10 months now
and they seem to have mellowed . . . . . was in his car last week
and they didn't seem as harsh now. It's only butt feel.
Are your bushings (trailing arm, wishbone, sway bar) factory rubber or poly?
All factory bushings, and in good condition too.
Are you running the factory sway bar or aftermarket from SAS?
Thicker than Aero ARBs front and rear ( can't remember the brand tho ) but not SAS.
Hope this answers all you questions. Its very late here now, will try to serch and post some pictures
of my car on coilovers tmr and my latest BBK, AP Racing 6potter infront and AP Racing 4potter in the rear.
Much appreciated! I was thinking of going poly everywhere and the SAS sway bars which will probably decrease comfort even more. Adding the K-sport setup with poly bushings puts me off the coilover kit if you're thinking it's too harsh. I'm running H&R springs and Koni dampers (50% stiff in front / 75% stiff in rear) and it's already a bit crashy over undulations in the road...not sure if I wanna go harsh but the advantage of being able to dial the exact height in is strong. One more question: What size tire on the 18x8.5? 245/40-18?

Tyres are 235x40x18.
I had the front and rear fenders "rolled".
I won't go 245x40 as the rolling circumference will be too big,
not to mention the scrapping / clearance issues.
I have 225x40x18 Bridgestone S001 tyres now on 18x8.8 BBS CH ET35,
model CH012. These S001 tyres are broader than usual. Compared them side by side before install with the Michelin PS3s in 235x40x10 and they were as wide. The side walls are a little harder ( = better steering feel ) and they are fairly quiet for the performance they give both in wet and dry.
Will post some pictures after I have the car washed tmr here and in the 9-5 picture thread.
If you have anymore ???, just shoot.
Cheers.
