After putting my T16 back together the clutch has started to slip at high boost, where is it possible to get a uprated clutch in the UK without going down the 9000 route?
Any ideas?
Ive looked at Abbott and Trent but there is nothing listed on either
TIA

Pete - I've alway thought the standard clutch was well up to handling huge amounts of power - much more than the gearbox is capable of sustaining anyway - and hence why no UK tuners list any?. Could be yours is just a bit tired - the pressure springs? Fitting a later 9000 type is really not a problem - swopping the flywheel is a quick job (and have you will also have the opportunity to have some weight shaved off while you are at it). I have heard though that the 9000 timming marks are different so it may be better to get one off a late 900 (90/91 on)
could also check if swedish dynamics have got something.

Pete,
As you may know, I had slipping probs about six months ago. I replaced the clutch and had the flywheel resurfaced. However, in cold weather, 3rd gear and 26psi clutch slip returned. Now the warmer weather is here, I've had none of this.
In other words, unless you are pushing very high/ridiculously high boost there shouldn't be a problem with stock set up.
BTW, if I hadn't had had a bit of clutch slip I suspect that the 'box might have gone bang!

I thought it was only the last of the Classic convertibles that had the 9000 flywheel with the correct timing marks?
I replaced my clutch with the 1st gearbox swap, the flywheel looked perfect. New friction plate and pressure plate never had any problems with slip. Done about 30k on that now.
I'm not using a bleed valve tho!

Yeah guys your probably right in saying that the pressure plate springs are getting tired but as ill have to get the clutch out anyway i realy want to replace it with something thats going to go the distance for what future mods i do to it!!
I can get a Centerforce clutch from TDI in Barking so ill be on the phone to them for a price!!

These people do competition clutches....

But I still reckon a new one with a good flywheel should be up to the job.
Stock clutches in my experience are not up to the punishment of a reasonably modded engine.
I replaced my clutch with a turbo stocker (brand new) 3 months ago at exactly the same time as i did my latest mods. I got 3 days out of it before it started to slip like a dog on an ice rink.
I am currently in the process of looking at my new clutch and flywheel (92 900t "larger") sitting in my garage until i get the time to change it.
Hopefully it will have greater capacity without making it undrivable.
