I was thinking about those as well when I had my 2006 but thought that much money for a coupe pieces of plastic was a bit too pricey as well. You can tape some black electrical tape over them and see if you like them when painted black. I couldn't stop and covered the chrome as well.
lol, you taped it up. That's crazy, I was thinking of doing the similar, but with a black matte vinyl wrap, and asking some one to tint those blinker lights.
I just cleaned the area with handsoap and made sure there wasn't any gunk on the part. Then layed the part on paper after it was dry and got to painting. Do it about 8 inches away and don't sit in one area, make sure to keep moving the can. Don't try to get missed spots by getting closer. Wait about 30 minutes to an hour between the coats and it should turn out quite well. Take some pics if you try anything.
You'll have to remove the entire front bumper shell because you'll have to remove the grill from the back. At least for the 2006-2009 models, according to the WIS. I have taken the bumper off from my previous 2006 and it is not that difficult.

You don't have to do that for the inserts correct? I'd imagine theyd be easy to install.
