I have a 96 900SE and want to get rid of that annoying upshift light. Any ideas?

Check out Eric's website...he changed his to a redline shift light.

You'll never regret turning that light off! I removed the bulb from the instrument cluster when I had the dashboard apart to clean some things. I'm pretty sure Eric's site mentions which wire coming out of the ECU controls it, if you want to do it the easy way and just snip it. I prefer to do things the hard way. :cheesy:

Just snip the wire - if at any time in the future you want it back (why??) you can simply reconnect the wires that you snipped. It would be much easier if there was a fuse to pull, but unfortunately there isn't...

Well I was searching for this topic and since ERP changed his site URL, I figured I'd do a public service and post the new link. I know how frustrating it is to search for hours only to find a link dead for whatever reason. So here is it:

Enjoy!

I'm so glad that Saab finally did away with that annoying light. My 2000 SE had it and it drove me totally nuts. I was glad to find out that my '01 Viggen does not have it. My understanding is that it was done for reasons to do with federal mileage requirements, but still... let me shift when I want to, please.

It is wire #55 off the ecu if you want to snip it.

I think you're right about the federal requirements, but the light was horribly unrealistic. If I shifted everytime it came on, I would be going 35 mph if 5th.

Anyone know which models came with a shift up light? I am wondering if I have a blown bulb or just never had it there in the first place.

TIA

I always just ignore it.
You all know it Comes on twice per Gear, right?
once when you "should" shift.. and again When you HAVE to..
There's no real need to buy the thing from summit... just ignore the first time it comes on, and shift the second Time you see it.

This is in the HOT SE.. no idea if it's all NG's or not.

Do you have an auto?

I don't think there is a shift up light in the auto. Or at least I hope not. I would think the Saab engineers would be smarter than that.

Mine doesn't have one either, but as I bought it used, it seems likely that the former owner would grow tired of the light as the rest of you guys did. I used to drive a manual Escort wagon with a shift light, and it was slightly more useless than the rest of the car.

hahaha, lmao

For people that bought their car new, anybody not have the light on? I think that most models do, just people get sick of it or the bulbs burn out, maybe?

HA, I forgot that I had one in my '86 VW GLI. Sad part was that it told you to upshift in 5th gear .

I would hate to start snipping things under the dash! Does anyone know if the tech 2 system can turn off the shift light?

If not how hard was it to remove the dash to take out the bulb!

The ecu is located on the right side of the passenger footwell (if you have LHD). Just fine wire #55 coming out of the ecu, no need to cut random wires. Ill do this when I have time.

Yeah I knew it was rare, I have only seen/heard of a couple of these. So I assumed that it wasnt one. Just stating the obvious...but I was wrong;oops:.
