Sounds interesting to me. And I'd like to see some of those roads RED was talking about (up around Julian). But I'd like to see the 9-2 as well.

I count four, plus a definite maybe from Michigain. (Please tell me you aren't going to U.P... UP folks are weird ;-) )

I believe finklejag will be in town around then, so it may be six.

Shall we settle on a date, say, by the 15th?

Hi,

I'm in the southern california area and would be interested in possibly getting together with you guys, depending on the date. I'll check back later to see when a date is agreed upon.

Wow, how did I miss this posting. This is awesome, I've been waiting for something to happen around here.

Looks like I better get my SPG registered! I'm not showing up in my '87 8v with its falling headliner

Why not something in mid January?

Why not something in mid January?

I think a lot of people, if they're in the area, have the time off around the New Years holiday weekend anyway, so I'm figuring that's the best bet.

Looking at the calendar, it would be either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

RED

I wish I could be optimistic, but I probably cannot make those dates (2nd, 3rd & 4th). Family holiday plans will probably eat up that whole weekend . Later in January I could do, but if the point is to coordinate with the S.D. Auto Show then that's no good. I'll just wait and see what you guys come up with, and hope it works for me too.

Later In January would work better for me too. I like the mid-month plan, but I'll also wait and see what the consensus is.

What's up with this? Is it going to happen or not? Even if we don't meet up for the auto show, I think it would be fun just to get together on a weekend for a drive and to see all the different socal Saabs together. I'm in the Long Beach area, and wouldn't really mind driving down to San Diego if that's where the majority of you guys are.

Hope everyone has a great Holiday Season

~Seth

It seems that those that are interested won't be able to make it to the SD auto show, but prefer a date later in January.

I believe I'll be on an "Island of tropical breezes/diseases" according to West Side Story during that timeframe, but should be available on the weekends.

If we planned a mid-late January So-Cal meet, who'd be interested? I see RED, SoCalViggen, MSOEMiller, moz, chingbong, sjhudon (if he's not in michigan) and myself thus far.

Shall we pick a date and remove the "unofficial" from the posting once we hit, say, ten interested people?

Ok, time to make like Emeril and bump it up a notch:

What: SAAB SoCal Ride
When: January 24th, 2004
Where: Palomar Mountain Scenic Drive
Who: ALL interested SAAB drivers

While the route is pretty much determined, the starting and ending venues have not been. From the looks of it, there are plenty of indian gaming centers in the region, which means a great breakfast to begin with, and an awesome lunch to end with. I'll hash out the start & stop points, along with a detailed route this week.

For those who've never been (myself included) the view from the top looks like this:

To the West (Pacific Ocean in background)

From flat, grey, freezing Suffolk which is ankle-deep in mud and stinks like a midden at the moment, my god I wish I could make it.

So let me get this straight. Good food, cool Saabs, and gambling? What more could a guy ask for?

Speaking in the southern california vernacular, I'm like there, dude.

Thanks for taking charge and organizing this, I look forward to it.

Sadly, I think I'm cycling from Los Angeles to San Diego and back on the 24th and 25th. :(

Sounds like a cool plan. I'm in LA and would like to meet other Saab people. Where exactly is the meeting point. Can someone designate a time and give directions. I say we should meet earlyish, like around 10 am.

Hi all,

Sorry for apparently dropping the proverbial ball on this one. I did take a quick run up to the top of Palomar .. and boy was it fun.

Our best bet is to meet at the Park & Ride off of the Interstate 15 & Highway 76 Intersection. It's a safe bet that most everyone will be able to find it, as opposed to having to find each other in a parking lot of a casino.

For those who haven't been up to palomar mountain yet, you are in for a treat.

We'll have to keep an eye on weather conditions. It was nearing freezing temperatures when I went up, which would make for an unfun and unsafe event, neither of which I'm willing to have.

Stay tuned.

mbodo, since you are the one taking charge of this event, how does RR900's request sound...10AM?

Also, do you have a cell phone # for us that are coming from surrounding areas and are not familiar with that area?

Below freezing, snow......great Im basically running on slicks right now! O well, looks like alot of slipping and sliding! :cheesy:

 I might not be able to make it now. A global deployment of a laboratory information management system (LIMS for those in the know) has taken priority.

If I can, I'll meet everyone there @ 10AM. For the sake of making me feel extra guilty, what's the "official" count? Just reply back with "me" or "aye" or something similar..

Hello all......im still in, I just finished wiping the car down for tommorrow! 8)

hey SOCALVIGGEN, if your still going, let me know and we can meet up in orange county (Irvine Spectrum) and caravan up to SD!

This includes anyone else who is coming from "Northern" Southern Cali!

Lets get a head count!

dasaabguy
26th January 2004, 10:59 AM
Ok....either nobody went or I just couldnt find the meeting spot!

Mbodo was correct the drive up to Palomar was pretty cool! Temperature was about 35 degrees and very foggy at the top of the mountain!

I made the best of it by dropping a couple hundred at Pala's craapps table :cheesy:

The sad part was that I only saw 2 saabs on the whole trip from Orange County to Palomar Mtn (and 1 of them was mine)

Next time we have to plan this out a lil better! 8) However, Im still interested in checking out the other saabs in this area.

If you guys are still interested in a Southern California Saab Meet for the month of March or April lets start planning!

Like I said before. . . I had to cycle down to San Diego. Yup 212 miles on my bike this weekend!

I saw 3 classic 900's and a NG 900 convertible. One had surfboards on top.

I'd love to meet-up sometime.

Ok lets revive this topic again and maybe get another meet setup in mid summer some time? Maybe it can just be local in the OC somewhere a Park or something? I am just interested in meeting other fellow Saabist in the SoCal areas? Also how many people here go to the SoCalEuro meets? maybe we could tie into one of those as well??? Any thoughts or comments here would be appreciated!!!!!!
