I am in favor of any watch whose maker does not take out full-page ads in The Robb Report, Cigar Aficionado, The Economist, or Delta Sky Magazine.

I have a Citizen Chronograph and I can't complain about it. Looks good, keeps great time, and is water resistant to 330 feet.

a good watch is relative... for me a good watch doesnt need to be expensive. it needs to be functional, reliable and looks good.

that means stainless steel band, with a sapphire face.

to others it might mean 24k gold with massive amounts of diamonds with a platinum band and be automatic made by Patek Phillipe or Audemars Piguet. lol

I went through several pages of that link and there isn't a single real "best" watch on them (except possibly the vintage Rolex). those are the "most Trendy" watches, or possibly the "most popular" watches, but far from best; possibly even far from decent...

The Best watches are the ones that combine form and function in a solid and enduring package. Dayglo green plastic watches for more than $200 dollars do not qualify...

Another good watch is a Luminox. I'm fairly sure they are used by the Navy. My dad has one, and for diving, swimming, and durability, it's great. Looks wise, not so great. lol

If you get one without the velcro strap they are great looking IMO.

I've got a Tissot PRC 100. Like the one below, but with a different face and color scheme.

Also, I've got a Orient black Mako. It's my more daily watch because it was cheaper, and I've got a rubber strap on it (different than the one pictured).

And as my "junker" watch I've got a Freestyle Shark.

But back to makes a good watch? I'd say one that you like best. Of my watches that I've got (the three above), I like them equally and they range from $20 to $350. Sure, I'm not going to wear the bright red one when I've got to dress up and make a good impression, but I'm not going to wear the Tissot mountain biking.

Yep. His has the rubber band. I just couldn't find a picture of one with a rubber band.
