is it possible to swap out a low pressure turbo for like a t3/t4 or something like a "normal" turbo? i mean could the piping handlie it and what not? or can you even use an mbc and bov on these low pressure turbos?

thanks iceboy

Lot more to swapping over a LTP to a T3/T4 then meets the eye…. Although I’ve never done one myself I know there are addition bits needed to do the swap. For starters the exhaust manifold I believe is different as well as most of the actual turbo controls….. I also believe there are ECU differences and engine mechanical differences……

so basically it costs alot of money and even more time eh?

Time…yes, money too….. you could located most bits from junk yards and classifieds but this it not an undertaking for the faint of heart….

What model saab exactly --- lpt 9000's are very easy and inexpensive to upgrade to full pressure 9000's --- but it all depends on the year. In terms of putting in a T4 that's different -- but you could start by upgrading the lpt to a fpt with about $500 for a ecu, boost control valve, and 3 hoses. (that is if its a later model 9000 lpt with intercooler).....

the 9000 lpt and the fpt both used the exact same turbo. The lpt did not employ a boost control valve and therefore is limited to base boost --- when i bought my 96 9000 CS lpt about a year or two ago i quickly converted it. This is a quick fix if you want more power -- taking my 96 lpt to a full pressure 9000 with 240 lbft of torque for only 1 hour of time and 500 bucks...

I know nothing about 9000s, but on my C900 LPT I have the Mitsubishi instead of the Garret. The Mitsubishi spools up quicker and feels more nippy. I have installed an intercooler, MBC and tweaked the wastegate and it is now considerably quicker than stock. No need to change the turbo, though - if you get the car tweaked it will have more than enough power. Saw a 9000 Aero put out 286bhp on the rollers the other day, but I'm not sure what mods he had. Looked stock from the outside though
