Thought it would be interesting to find out which Saabs are owned by the members of SaabCentral as in the past year we have gained many owners of newer Saabs.

There you go Bill - I had to lump it in with the 99 as I couldn't add any more poll options!

Steady old chap. There are a lot of secret 90 fans out there!

...And there's a secret 90 club. Admittedly there are only 3 of us in it (and we've all owned the same 90), but three's a crowd so they say! :cheesy:

:o and you can only check one model :-?? A true fanatic has at least two 8) Personally I'm a c900 and 9000 guy myself, possibly because I can't afford the newer models

Besides, the reliability vs. cost factor of the c900 8valve carb. is something you pretty much cant find anywhere else.

I put my 99 in the poll as I drive in most, I'd like to say 99% of the time but that would be just silly. I love my ng900, it is my toy, which I don't drive that often but I have still managed to put 13,000 miles on it in the year I have had it. Opps but they lower the tone buy having reliable gearboxes :cheesy:
Still trying to convince the Mrs to get a Saab but no joy yet  I have also started on my Mum too but I am not convinced she will sell her yellow Hyundai thingy any time soon. Shame my Dad isn't still around, if he had driven my ng I don't think I would have got the keys back. And the dog can't drive so I suppose I am stuck with just the 2 Saabs.

Well, this is a 9k CS with metallic green bodycolor and sand (beige  ) leather interior, i.e. the best combo there is on any Saab, ever   . Also "equipped" with a 3ft long 3/8" diameter stainless steel tube, which pierced the bumper and dented the fender while driving 60mph approx. one month after I had bought the car in mint condition.

Hmmm, had to tick the 99 box as my 99 Turbo is the daily (and track!) driver. If I could have ticked it each time for each of my Saabs it would have increased the number of votes by nearly a third

The list at present:

9 x Classic 900 (still to collect but deal done!)
900 Classic Convertible (maybe sold)
99 Turbo
99 GL
95 Stroker estate (should be away tonew owner this week)
92b

Is 14 Saabs (NONE newer than a C900!) enough to qualify for "Enthusiast" status, or would you call it something else. My friends do

woah.. More people own 9-3 SS than C900.. That's quite a surprise.

I think that its simply that more of them voted for the poll. I have to think that there are many more people on this board with a C900 than the new 9-3's and its simply that more of them signed up already. Perhaps this will inspire us C900 owners to vote and claim the #1 spot.

Not the tidiest example of a Early T16S Aero Flatnose, but it's mine. It's paid for, and I have money on the credit cards into repairing it. It might not be "Fast", but it's "Quick". Quick enough to spook scoobs on a fly by on a dual carriageway.

Thanks for the thought greenphotos,

If mine was a black or white, a painted grill would have looked badass. A red painted grill on a red car however would hirt the look and not help it. Kinda like the euro lights just wouldn't go right with red.

MeatballTurbo
04-12-03, 03:37 AM
you know, looking at that photo of mine, I really must get some clear corners for the front, and tint the rear indicators/turn signals redish (would smoke the whole cluster, but I've got the centre red decor panel on now, so red it will have to be), just leaving the reverse light white, now that I've gotten them both working.

New to this group and to SAAB ownership. I am now the proud owner of a Black 9-5 Aero Saloon. Love it!!! I must admit it was brought due to fact it was faster and less common than a 330 BMW and not an outright desire for a SAAB. But now I have it I just love leaving those BMW boys for dust.

Hmm How many members are there anyway?

Although my "daily driver" is a 2001 9-3 SE 2.2 TiD 5-dr (45mpg, around 30k miles a year - just coming up to 102k), my favourite regular drive is my "fun" car - 1978 99 Turbo 3-door in black with Incas and big boots :D. Just can't seem to stop smiling when I'm driving it - the most fun car i've owned!

I also get to drive my wife's '01 9-5 Aero HOT Auto estate (wagon) as that's got the fitted dog-guard and a towbar (used for collecting old Saabs!). A very nice quick drive but still not as much fun as the 99T. Less regularly, I take out my '74 95V4 estate that is itself quite a lot of fun to drive but very very slow compared with the 99T. It gets a lot of looks/comments (and would probably get more if it wasn't so cosmetically challenged at the moment!).

So, I voted "99" :cheesy:. Whatever you drive: Happy Saabing.

You'd think they'd just take it that extra step and equip it with a CVT... (Or Variomatic as Volvo called it back in the day)

Haha Well Yes..

But Volvo bought DAF :P

By the time I was old enough to remember things, the DAF had transformed into the Volvo 340 :p

But CVT's are quite neat inventions.. maximize the usable power out of an engine..

Even Audi are starting to use them now.. They should be both lighter, AND more efficient than a 7spd autobox...

11-01-05, 12:32 PM
There were plenty of them here too in the UK.

But they were surely an upgrade to the DAF, which was known here as the 'rubber band car'

Of course Ford also had a CVT box on the Fiesta at one time. And the Benz Smart Car has a sort of variant of that theme i think but with psuedo 'tiptronic' steering wheel paddles............ Now the Smart car is another story ............ DON'T - it would never pass the Moose test, but after the A Class fiasco, I am not surprised, it after all comes from a Benz stable .......... Keep it in a straight line and you'll stay alive; well thats what Top Gear showed at Christmas here ......... :D

Looking through this revised thread and thought I would post an update after a year had passed. Currently driving a c900 Carlsson as the 99T is awaiting surgery

12 x c900 (for spares etc)
2 x c900 Carlsson (one driver, one spares)
1 x 9000 2ltr Turbo (spares)
1 x 99 Turbo
1 x 92b (still not started on it ;oops: )

Just the 17 Saabs now as the vert, the 99gl and the 95 have moved on

Just found pictures of my 900...its not the greatest looking car, had quite a few dings and scratches on it (in one you'll notice it right above the rear wheel) but it had only 122,525 miles on it when I got it, and I only paid $500 for it, and it was a replacement for a problematic and gas guzzling Oldsmobile...Since I obtained it I put in a full dark gray leather interior to replace the beige cloth one, and got a headliner in better condition than the one when I bought the car. I also ditched the passive restraint seatbelts and put in normal ones, and replaced the headlights. Someone robbed the bumper extention covers, or side skirts, whatever theyre called, as well as the hood ornament. I found its a whole lot more reliable than my old Volvo and Olds, and the only car that kept up with this without any major problem is our 1989 Mazda 323 But over time it's getting there...and its my first Saab, so I'm still learning.

1989 C900i 8v 2dr Auto. Must have been one of the last 8 valvers.

Presently lacking an MOT, so not actually on the road. Unfortunately, will be for sale as soon as it's tested. Simply can't afford to put fuel in the tank on my present income. Really a shame as I really, really love the car. Sure surprised me too, didn't think any auto could move like that, never mind a three speeder! That engine and box are perfectly matched to each other I think. Will get a photo page for it up once I get it cleaned up a bit...that deep red colour doesn't half go pink when it ain't polished!

Other vehicles...have ended up with three again!

1997 Lada Niva 1.7i Hussar. (http://zelandeth.artamir.org/cars/niva)
1987 Skoda Estelle 130GL (in orange, only just bought it, so no photos yet. It's also off the road as of Friday thanks to a dead clutch release bearing...yay!)

And don't even bother with either the Lada or Skoda jokes, think I've heard them all by now!
Chronilogical automotive history:

(on a private lane before I had my license)
1986 Fiat Panda 750L.
1986 Austin Metro 1.0 City (which I put my feet through the floor one day).
1986 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit. (Sat for five years before I got it after a smash - started second try).
1988 Fiat Uno 60S Only car I lost money on. Total disaster.
(once I got my license)
1986 Austin Metro 1.0L (Matt, brush painted brown).
1988 Renault 25 Monaco (Most comfortable car EVER!)
1988 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit (unfinished project, ended up scrapped)
1993 Fiat Panda 1.0 FIRE (actually my fathers, but I had access to it. High velocity tin box. Albeit a VERY reliable tin box that went nearly 70 miles to every gallon of petrol).
1981 Austin Metro 1.0HLE. (In bright yellow. Immaculate. Should never have sold it NSA 240W, if you've seen it, let me know!).
1997 Lada Samara 1.3S. (Good car, despite a carb which I never got to work right. Bit too normal though. Went like stink though!)
1997 Lada Niva 1.7i Hussar. (Fun!)
1989 Saab 900i Auto.
1988 Skoda Estelle 130GL.

My father's 2004 Ford Fusion2 fits in somewhere between the '81 Metro and the Niva.

Probably missed one...but that's most of them!

Chalk up another 99 owner. It's an 1850 MkI from 1972 (tax exempt too!), and when I was going through all the paperwork last night it seems as though it has most of the receipts, service history, etc since 72 through to about 95, including a little notebook with loads of scribbles like mileage, work done, etc!

I've just bought my first Saab, after owning a Rubber Bumper MGBGT for a couple of years. It was impractical, and I wanted something that was useable, and there was only one choice, a 99 (well I did consider either a 90 or a pre face lift 900). We had a chrome bumper 1709 MkI when I was a nipper in the 70's, and I always fancied getting one myself at some point, and now I've got one. :D
EDIT: It's blue BTW.

I don't want to drag this out ... but a correction is needed.

The NG900 was manufactured between 1994 and 1998.
NG = Next Gen
NG = GM
GM = General Motors
However, the NG900 was manufactured and designed by Saab.
It just so happened that GM owned them at the time.
The NG900 is no less a Saab than a C900 is ...

Feel free to browse the NG900 workshop forum for further details.

950AWHP. Totally rice.

Yup. Completely ricey. God, it's sooo tacky!

I feel sorry for whoever has to drive this, what a ricey POS.

Regardless of amount of power, those cars are still ugly tacky gaudy. Whomever modified them has no taste what so ever.

To me Rice = tasteless visual modifications. Those cars fall right into that category.

I would be embarrassed as all hell if I had to drive any of them.

For the same amount of money it costs to build one of these SEMA-styled retard mobiles, why not buy something with a little class, that is still pretty damned fast.... M5, M6 E65AMG, 911, Aston Martin... etc.

Husky
24-10-06, 11:25 PM
I honestly find the Nissan Skyline attractive, especially the R34, both inside and out. And if I had enough money to build a car that made 950 AWHP, I'd have enough money to drive something "Practical" as well. I still think that you are a moron for makind the statement quoted in my signature. And you call them ugly? Compared to what? A C900? A GM900? A 95? Ugliness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. People with attitudes such as yours are the reason I gave up on most of the GM boards I used to frequent, and came to SaabCentral for my daily dose of car talk.

Sorry, have all sigs disabled so I cant see what you are talking about (I didn't even realize they allowed sigs here, must have changed since I signed up.)

I still stand by my opinion. Any visual modification that is obvious to a non-car person is NOT FACTORY is gaudy and in poor taste. A visual modification that blends in enough to make people think "That might just be factory" is ok in my book though.

SEMA are just a bunch of complete retards.

I have nothing against Hondas and other Japanese cars, I just hate it when people do loud colorful and obvious visual modifications.

My favorite tuned car ever was a Subaru WRX STi, where the driver actually changed out the intercooler for a front mounted one replaced the hood and the trunk with carbon fiber alternatives painted to match the body.

Without a hood scoop, enormous spoiler, or mismatched body panel colors (because unpainted CF looks dumb) it was not only a tuned up really fast car, and more aerodynamic, it actually looked pretty decent too. The elimination of the hood scoop and spoiler did more positive things for that car than anything else!

I know that taste is a matter of opinion, but I am sorry, I can never stop putting down tastlessly modified cars that look aftermarket. I think they are one of the dumbest things in existance and I will make fun of them and SEMA until the day I die. Deal with it.

Husky
25-10-06, 10:54 AM
"Deal with it"
Well here's the thing. Your definition of "Tasteless" is not everyone's. And it's stupid to think that anyone that disagrees is wrong. So any visual modification that doesn't look factory is rice. Gotcha. I'll respect your opinion, but remember that it's nothing more than an opinion.

Aeromatic95
28-10-06, 03:20 PM
I still think that you are a moron for makind the statement quoted in my signature.

Wait wait... You quoted me because you think I am a moron?

Anyways, there actually are different reasons cars are attractive to the human eye. There are general guidelines to what makes something visually appealing. Same thing with humans. DO you think its by some strange coincidence that if you had 1000 males look at a sports illustrated swimsuit edition, that they would almost all find all the women attractive?

There's a reason not many people love the Geo prism. Theres a reason a lot of people love ferrari's. There are things called styling cues that appeal to the eye. I'm not saying everyone has to like the same cars, but there are reasons why many people don't find them attractive.

They hurt my eyes.

Please dont resort to name calling, by the way. We're all supposed to be friends here. :nono;
