The BSR I think only fits cars with the 150hp and 175hp. Nick at Taliferro said it was made to sit below the lower valance. He doesn't know for sure. Its a pretty new product.

Simon just emailed me from PFS. He said this exhuast will fit the Arc and Aero with the 210hp engine. This seems the way to go over the stock sports exhaust as this is a true free flow cat-back.

You can buy it from a couple places

http://www.genuinesaab.com/detail.asp?product_id=B63-H

http://www.partsforsaabs.com/product_info.php?cPath=104_279_282&products_id=1533

http://www.speedparts.se/prod/sp_avg_93_03-.shtml

On Speedparts website. They said its not for cars with body kits. :-?? The pic on PFS website shows it on a car with a body kit. I think it will fit the Vector.

So is this what you call an exhaust system or is it just the muffler or what ??

finklejag
5th October 2003, 08:50 PM
Yes and no 8)

This system is a cat-back. That means is starts from the catalytic converter back.

The whole system is called a turboback. It starts from the turbo exhuast manifold and includes the cat. It will probably take awhile for a company to come out with a downpipe and high flow cat. A lot of times you will gain more power with a aftermarket downpipe then with a cat-back exhaust.

Now all we need is a cheap (less than $300) oval tip.

i have been back and forth deciding if I want that full catback system or just do the Magnaflow muffler with a nice double wall oval tip. i have decided to go magnaflow, from what i researched I dont think that the full catback exhaust is going to do much diff then the magnaflow muffler, so i figure ill keep it simple and see how it goes, worst case scenario if i dont like the magnaflow, ill ebay it (its a universal) and get the catback.

Waiting to hear back from Jetex about an exhaust for my Linear. With any luck we can get one over here and test fit it and then work on getting more of them imported for sale.

If they do agree to export a system to the US, would people be interested?

Hey veritas

I emailed Jetex UK. I couldn't find their main website in Sweden on Google. Hopefully they will email me back tomorrow. If they do have one coming out. I will buy it. If not, I will be buying the BSR.

Parts for Saabs could also supply the Ferrita system. It consists of the two rear silencers and is made from high grade stainless steel and is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle. It's a 2.5" system with a 3" tailpipe which looks like this...

http://www.saabs.cwc.net/T_endpipe.jpg

Cost including VAT @ 17.5% but excluding shipping is £594.95

I contacted BSR this morning to get this confirmed and here is what they have said...

On the Aero there is a spoiler kit which makes the end pipes "hang down". The space between pipes and bumper will be 60-70mm. You can bend the "mounting pins" to get the end pipes come closer to bumper. A mechanic shouldn“t have any problems doing this.

call Magnus Uhr at www.saabtuning.com
there you can find ferritasystems.
this system sounds more then bsr och looks better.

But BSR systems are also good.

Thanks Simon and 93ssaero

I was thinking that the BSR was made for non Aeros  I'm too anal to have a mechanic bend the muffler up. I wouldn't want them to do that anyway.

$800 is lot for the Ferrita. :o But I really like how it looks on 93ssaero's car. I like the single tip more then the twin tips.

If you guys can find a picture of the exhaust laid out that would be great. I'm having a hard time navigating through the Ferrita site. :x

Thanks for your help Simon and 93ssaero :)

Hello

Yes i have mod the frontgrill my self ,a lot of work but it was worth it. The spoiler is saab original (not aero original)i had to change the trunk to a one without an spoiler :o

And the rest of the spoilerkit is aero, the brakes are standard Aero 314mm

93ssaero, nice to meet you! It's nice to finally put a name behind the famous Speedparts Project car! 8)

You have a sweet ride there, and great pics too!

Be warned, many of us have been lusting after different parts (if not the whole thing) of your car, so be prepared for lots of questions!

I like the grille... :cheesy: Can you give any more info on it?

You shouldn't put duel exhaust on an inline 4. It definately screams "knows nothing about mechanics"

Exactly why does dual exhaust scream "knows nothing about mechanics"?

"Principles of Internal Combustion Engines" course at Lehigh taught that the cylinders produce a certain amount of power. That power is used to suck air in, pump exhaust out, overcome friction/accessories/other losses, and finally, accellerate the car. If you reduce the pumping losses (with larger exhaust, dual exhaust, free flowing muffler, race catalyst, etc.) you'll have more power left to accellerate.

What am I missing?

Besides, I think it looks great.

Have any of you guys had 2.5" custom setups done on your cars? If so, how much did you spend and what type of muffler are you using?

Hmm guess I don't know anything avout mechanics then, still wouldent trade my exhaust against a single pipe.

Exactly why does dual exhaust scream "knows nothing about mechanics"?

Well, it doesn't exactly scream anything.

At low rpm's the flow of exhaust through a narrow pipe creates a siphoning effect which helps scavenge exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber. With adequate cam overlap, these same forces help to draw in the A/F mixture.

There is a trade-off to be made at which point low rpm driveability suffers at the expense of high rpm output. The practical cut-off for a relatively stock 9-3 motor seems to be about 2.5" (single pipe).

Bigger pipes don't work as well for scavenging.

Please, please, please, don't tell that to the Mopar guys who designed the SRT-4 with dual-exit exhaust, then .... That thing kicks enuff butt as it is. :o

I contend that the SRT-4 is aimed at a slightly different consumer demographic than the 9-3SS.

You need to know more specifics about the motor and exhaust design. There are trade-offs to be made when moving to bigger pipes. The SRT-4 crowd may be more than happy to live with those.

OTOH, I am a longtime fan of Chrysler Engineering. For all I know, the SRT-4 exhaust has a spring-loaded baffle in one of the pipes that only opens above a certain pressure.

ctrlz
3rd February 2005, 11:30 AM
It looks like the stock SRT-4 exhaust is 2.25" with dual-tip. This is a modification (http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0408scc_projsrt/) going up to 2.5". Not quite sure why the stock has dual tips. Marketing gimmick, perhaps? Maybe the extra weight makes for added momentum...

The comment about "active feedback boost control" is also interesting. I wonder if the ECU reprogramming in packages like BSR Stage 3 reduces that in our cars.

Here is some theory (http://www.dalhems.com/engine/ssheader.html) on header design, which goes into some detail as to why bigger isn't better.

cpenning623
3rd February 2005, 09:28 PM
The SRT4 could probably smoke a linear and MAYBE an arc...I dont have an ss, I still ahve the 210hp stock motor, and my best freinds srt4 takes me everytime, we are both in high school so niether of us are expirienced drivers...but yea, I wouldnt be putting down the SRT. The SRt comes from the factory with no mufflers, 2 resonators, and cats. it is a TRUE dual exit exhuast, meaning that the second exit flows just like the first.

Automaggot
3rd February 2005, 10:14 PM
I'm pretty sure the SRT-4 runs high 13s stock, which is much quicker than the Aero. But it's apples and oranges when it comes to everything else.
