Well, let me start by introducing myself. My name is Louis aka SaabZen. I'll give you a brief history with this car. My '88 vert was totalled after 8 months of restoration. I just enjoyed the car for 8 weeks ,the tail end of summer and was t-boned by a woman running the red light. $14K down the drain and only $4k from the insurance company to show for it! I sold as much as I could and recovered about $3K. I got taken for my new turbo by someone I trusted! cost was $1500, used for about 50 miles got $250. from the guy and never seen or heard from him since. Don't let me see your saab in Michigan ****ER! I got pissed and that was it NO MORE SAABS! I bought a Audi A6 4.2 SWEET! My buddy Jones Z had his 1990 vert we modified and was a star at all the club meet. The only difference is I had a carlsson kit and his had the SPG kit. Both paint jobs were white with silver kit. Well some things I did not sell from the car and kept just in case "I get that feeling" Well, Jones Z's 1990 vert was vandalized and sat for about 2 years because after you reach the pinnacle and someone brings you down you move on to bigger and better things. I bought his convertible and this is where our story begins.

Stripping the car out, tons of wire! I did not put any of them there, some else who worked on the car did. It was so much that a guy dumpster dive for them to recycle! Rusted floor pans, improper wiring, no radio, just some dated speakers, all the gauges missing, dash cracks, seats...okayish, suspension....shot, ball joints....LETS JUST SAY I BOUGHT HOPE! I hope I won't find something else wrong! On the plus side the engine was replace with a 70k mile motor, new clutch w/ lightened flywheel, with vacuum leaks and stock turbo. Time to work!

First, credit must be give to John Williams for the lovely pics of the car!

Gorgeous car - love the colors and everything.
Normally I hate chrome wheels, but those seem to 'go' with the car pretty well.

Do you have current pics? I'd love to see what you're starting from.

The car basically looks the same except for a few changes. He wheels were sold before I got the car. I've replaced the interior from black to the ones I had in the two tone seats in the first car. The top has been replaced from black to blue. I've added autometer nv gauges ( not completely installed). Carlsson kit is being repaired to replace the ones on this car (its for sale) Flip screen nav, dvd, radio. Currently, I am looking for a reasonable body shop to replace the rotted floor pan. Will have pics soon. She's about to be gutted again.

I've seen pictures of the second car on Jon 1s web site but not the first.

Absolutely not to my taste BUT really well executed, glad to see someone willing to put the effort in rather than just blathering about it.

Good luck and keep the build pictures coming.

I droped off the car yesterday to replace the cancerous floor pan. I was quoted a reasonable price for the job. Let's just hope it does not go too far over the 500.00.

Carlsson kit at the body shop along with upper moldings, mirrors, and boot cover to be prep and painted Lexus' titanium pearl (silver)

Other problem that need attention: I might have seized calipers. The car was sitting for about a year and a half. When I started driving the car and slammed the brakes it would pull violently to the right. Also brakes would pulse when pressure applied. I ordered a new set of cross drilled rotor and semi-metallic pad for all 4 corners. Upon evaluation of the calipers I'll know if I need to have them replaced.

Completed list:
new bilstein shocks: they're black and they suck! Well, maybe not but Im not happy with the car the way it is with the shocks and scantec lowering springs. The rear sits much higher than the fronts. The car should feel like a go cart but instead it dips too much when steers right to left, left to right. Maybe some sway bar would do the trick.

ball joints (upper and lower)
tie rod ends
front wheel bearings
motor mounts
new catalyctic coverter
new bbs spoked wheels and tires
gauges: boost/vac, oil pres, volts, water temp, afr
replacement dash and fascia
Jensen vm9512 hd radio/nav/dvd system
FMIC order and being fabricated
lightened flywheel
t5 parts 80% collected!

I got hold of the coveted MOMO Saab steering wheel in great shape. Now I need to replace the steering column to accomodate the wheel. Goodbye air bag!

I have a short shifter kit but it needs a little modification so I won't have to search for gears. It is highly inaccurate so I had to get rid of it for now until I have some time to put into it.

I see this project being completed sometime next year. Hopefully by the end of spring in time for summer. Now that I've got the bug again I want T5! Bigger turbo! Modified Engine!

All that said if someone makes me an offer before or after this project is complete and the price is right, consider it sold. Besides, there is still some goodies I'd like to have on the Audi.

Im not worried about the tranny. I'll do what I can to beef it up a little. It is not my intention on tracking the car. I just want the power to be there when I need it.

Well over the weekend things slowed down a bit. My Audi had its thermostat go south. So I needed to pull the saab out of the shop. Lucky for me the job hasn't started. So I will have to drop off the car this friday to have the floor pan replaced.
Today, I took the bits and pieces to get painted in titanium silver:
1. boot cover
2. mirrors
3. 5 piece upper spoiler kit
4. seat belt cover
5. reat seat brackets
6. carpet running board
7. upper and lower center console
8. carlsson kit

FMIC is finished being built and continuing working on completing parts needed for the T5 upgrade.

I got my car back yesterday the floor pan welded in place. I took the car this evening to get cleaned up and degreased. Tomorrow I will start painting the interior to under coating and paint to make it a little more presentable. I will post some pics of my progress.

Here are pics of the rusted floor pan that needed to be replaced. Winter is comming and by summer I might be stopping like Fred Flintstone by next summer.
