View Full Version : low ac blower speed

I saw a tech post that describes replacing an ac blower motor resistor to get the blower output back where it should be-- my ac cools but the airflow wouldn't disturb a gnat. I had/solved a similar problem on my ex-Benz E320 by replacing the temp regulator on the blower motor with good success.
What, please, is the part number for the ac blower motor resistor and where can it be purchased? Other than this problem, I am loving the new/old Saab-- just hope it is more reliable than the Benz it replaced.
Thanks,
Rhcoleman (newbie)

Fan running at one speed only

Your fan electrical motor brushes could be worn

Also your cabin air filter could be very dirty

Thanks, I'll check it out. I lean toward the dirty air filter theory at this moment.

Same problem with my 05. I brought it in, under warranty, they replaced the cabin air filter for $150, telling me that was the problem, and that it blows hard now. Still sucks, and will be going back in with request for a refund. Unlikely though. Maybe a clogged filter can strain the blower motor?

the filter cost around USD20.00 for scan tech, slightly more around USD30.00 for Valeo OEM filter. it is doable DIY but not so ergonomic for big built person even with the seats moved to the rear.

Well, my 9-5 blower motor just stop to work. The bushes are too weared and tiny, and must be replaced. I checked at local electrical shops for a pair of new ones, but unfortunately, can't find anything... anywhere, even on the internet.
Where can i buy a pair of brushes for a 1999 9-5 blower motor in Newark, New Jersey... or at the internet?? Any clue??
By the way, what's the size of this specific brushes on lenght, width and thickness??

There was a thread on how to modify brushes to fit the blower motor.

The burshes were originally for a Porter Cable Router. I don't think you can buy replacement brushes.

Unlucky experience till now. I bought those brushes at Mc Master - Carr dot com ($27 usd with tax and shipping). Cutted at recommended size to fit inside brushes "housing". Worked perfectly at the beginning, but then.. a strong smell of burnt plastic and finally the motor stops again. Worked great for more then ten minutes. The motor itself was very hot and the plastic "housing" probably melted, because i was unable to pull out brushes again. I believe that the material of this new brushes (carbon) is different and more "stronger" than the original ones... or i did some mistake.
Well, then i changed my mind and decided to buy a new motor blower at eeuroparts dot com ($249 usd).
During installation, the new motor worked nice. Finished the reinstallation work and it still runs neat and silent, cabin was cold.
Few hours later when i started car.... nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The ACC seems to work fine because i turn it on and off. Maximum to minimum, Econ mode... i tried everything and nothing. Restart car... nada...zero!!!
Now, after spent around $280, i still have the same problem... with a new blower!!
What can i do next??

Update...
I tried to find out if the ACC unit has some malfunction code, when we press AUTO and OFF at the same time. In my case it comes with the code 1-----21 message. In other words, it has one fault code #21. According to web site saab9-5 dot com, the Tech2 Code for 21 is B2410.
What should i do next? Uninstall everything again and check the blower motor, and the air recirculation flap? I need some help...
