OK. Did I go too far here? Man, I think I need help.

Driving to work yesterday. I see a pretty black 9-3 4 door. Looks just like the 94 900 I'm in, but mine is Green. I hurry to catch up. Get next to him. Smile. Wave. He looks at me quickly, then looks away like "don't know you!".
I get behind him. We are going the same way. I see he has a temporary tag on for a license plate (For you non-US folks that means he just bought the car less than 30 days ago).
He makes a sudden left turn. Funny, I think. I follow. That left turn takes me where I'm going anyway.

He runs a yellow light. I think now he thinks I'm a 'road-rager'. Thinking 'damn did I cut him off or something?'. I laugh and blow the yellow light, as well, which turned red on me when I was underneath it. (No worries, no other cars in sight).

He turns right onto the road I need to turn right on.
Now's my chance. I (easily I might add) catch up to him. We come to a light. I roll my window down. "Hey!". He opens his.

"That's your first Saab, isn't it?"
"Yes, it is."
"Saab owners wave at each other, man".
"Yeah?"
"Yeah..." (light turns green) "Nice car" I say, and he rapidly becomes a small dot in my rearview.

So should I put a  here or a :cheesy: ????

Amigo, and I mean this in the friendliest way: somebody's not gonna understand the Saab thing, you're just gonna end up with good ol' American bullet holes in your Saab - or you!
We got a lot of folks out there now that shoot first and wonder about it later!

I am deathly concerned about Mr. CleveSaab! Given what we do know about this fine gentleman, I would have to question his judgement stalking another Saab as he could have been:

1.Stalking his beautiful wife around the house, yard, shopping mall, BD, or kitchen instead of chasing some hairy butt guy in a Saab around the city just for a friendly wave.

I believe that Saab Community Intervention is necessary to ensure that Mr. CleveSaab keeps his stalking at home where it will surely be appreciated by Mrs. CleveSaab

The only time I might be a Saab stalker is if I happened upon Cleve's wife in her 'vert..... I might chase after her.

I just can't get her to post here. That's her only flaw, that I see. ;) hehe

Also, don't get my name confused with someone that adores Cleveland, either. I like it, but it's not paradise! Just waiting for my company to move me to an office somewhere it doesn't snow. (Look out Tampa, San Fran, LA or Houston!).
Beary, where's that hole in the fence?
Yeah, the outage MAY have started very close to me.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Cleve, you sir, are my hero!

Today, I saw an SPG. Black, so I figure it's an 85. Left a note under the wiper, giving them this website, a few others and my email, along with a note hinting at a local owner's group. I think I've seen this car before, and if I'm not mistaken, the driver is a woman. Wonder if she got the note okay?

Later on I saw a GM900. Followed them for a while, as I usually tend to do... Not many of 'em wave to me. :( In fact, the only time I ever had any acknowledgement, was thursday afternoon... the power was out, and I pulled up to a 900s. Stoplights were dead, and the people in front of us (both lanes) had started to go, but traffic wouldn't allow them. So we look at each other, nod, and both 900's slide on backwards, letting the inferrior cars reclaim thier spots behind the white line. Tried to roll my window down to say hey, but he diddn't pay attention... and it was raining... I guess it usually does that durning a hurricane.

Let's start making headlines Cleve. :) "Maniac Saab Drivers Emerge Nationwide!!!"...

:D

Cleve, I know for a fact you did escape, because I saw you in Hershey, PA two weeks ago. Good thing we both snuck back out before we were detected as being from Ohio.

I was cruising down I-480 on the 9th, and just as I was entering the construction zone, a nice looking woman in a C-900 convertible pulls up along side me(I was in my 86T), I glance over and she's got a big smile on her face and she's giving me a big thumbs up. I smiled back and returned the gesture. Then she disappeared down the road as it was close to my exit.

She really made my day.....maybe I should have followed your lead and tailed her.:P

Sorry, it could have just been me.
We were there at the begining of May and I only had my car for a couple of weeks ...
Perhaps I was also a little distracted by the fact that we were in Hawaii ... add that to wanting to make the most out of our 1 day in Oahu, renting a car, driving to the other side of the island to go gliding, driving back to see Pearl Harbor, trying to find the Saab dealer, and get the car back without being late for the cruise ship ...

I'm sure it was just me! :cheesy:

Next time we will spend more time (without the kids) and I'll certainly be paying more attention ... maybe we'll even come visit ... :cheesy:

It was a fantastic trip ... unbelievable scenery!
Next time, we'll visit Hawaii, not take a cruise .... it was a great way to see some of the different islands (and the price could NOT be beat - we couldn't have flown there on our own for the price of the cruise / flight!).

Maybe we should have a Saab Central gathering at your place! :cheesy:

Good for you Cleve.
The world needs more SAAB wavers.
I have waved at about a dozen SAAB drivers, each one of them just looked confused. You'd think that most people, when driving a SAAB, would instantly recognise another. But apparently it is "just a car" to a lot of people...

Thats funny. Here in Rhode Island they seem to swarm all over the place.

I got a real kick out of the time, a few days after I bought my 2001 9-5 Aero, when heading home, on my street I was the middle black 9-5 Aero, in a line of three of us.

Funny thing is, I don't remember seeing so many Saabs around until I bought mine, which means one of two things:

a) Everyone around here are copycats, copying me

b) I'm just noticing them more now...

I wonder which one it is... :P

Thru some scientific detective work, I have come to the conclusion that CleveSaab is, in fact, NOT A STALKER :idea

The stalker seen in his car is actually his mother-in-law after she waxes his Saab. She chases men before she returns his Saab to him :cheesy:

Wow... Four Months Later...

In any case, I don't even remember why I replied or what it was about. So okay.

I do do something though. I can spot a Saab from a mile away (Same with a Mercedes or a Lexus) and I have a tendancy to plan ahead on how to be nice. Like on the NJ turnpike, the was a new E-Class behind me, and the lanes merged, I purposely planned on how to get the E-Class to merge in front of me. I do that with Saabs too, like if the traffic is moving slowly in the other lane and I see a Saab in it, I will slow down and make a space for a minute or two to see if the Saab wants out. Does anyone else do this?

yfs87
23-08-04, 08:31 PM

Cleve - love your work! :cheesy:

I was driving my SPG here in Jersey and also noticed that fellow Saabers don't acknowledge one another much. And I've seen a bunches upon bunches of Saabs around here, especially them new-generation 9-3s are swarming around here - no sign of Saabitis at all.

I think my SPG is making me into an aggressive driver... haha. I've never had so much fun driving a car. I think I found my true calling by buying the classic 900 SPG.

Cleve - you can stalk me any time, if you can catch up to me on the freeway :o :cheesy:

LOL @ Deniss. I'll keep my eyes out for ya'. 8) (Now that I have a turbo, I feel like there aren't too many cars I couldn't catch. ;) )

Paco

I made sure I didn't let a Saab driver in the other night....picture the scene, a long two lane off-ramp that split in to two lanes of two, only the left hand pair was down to one with road works, causing a HUGE traffic jam, the right hand lane was clear.

Matey in his 9-3 decides to blat down the right hand lane (which is the one that divides in to two going the other way...) before jamming on his brakes to try and jump the ENTIRE queue!!!! But he picked ME to try and BMW his way in front of, no indicators no NOTHING!!!!

NO CHANCE!!!! Either :cheesy:

Now if he had crawled along indicating like he'd made a genuine error, I'd have let him in, but this sort of driving is unacceptable, and he found himself cold-shouldered by an embarrassing number of cars!

I do find myself being extra-nice to cars I like the look of

deniss
25-08-04, 12:50 PM
I agree with Paco. Most of all I don't like drivers who feel like they should be assisted by everyone else on the road to outsmart other drivers. It's just a matter of principle. Doesn't matter if it's a pretty girl or not, if it's a great-looking car or not. Saab or not. They aren't getting in in front of me if I can help it. On the other hand, I always help drivers in trouble, the ones who are stuck and need a little room to get out of their situation.

Cleve - with my SPG and your Stage 1, wanna go Saab-hunting sometime? You know, stalk a few? Explain them the rules of the game? ;)
