: Sean's 89 900t...not quite a build
ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 05:25 PM Thanks for stopping in.
I am the proud owner of a clean 89 900t with 106k miles and an auto tranny.
I am the second owner and have put a grand total of 140 miles on the car in 5 days. It is a fun car to drive and definitely was worth the $1200 investment thus far.
The previous owner gave me a ton or receipts for work done over the last 6 or 7 years. I am truely luck to have such a solid car.
I am looking to do the following:
1. Install my pioneer radio (done today)
2. Install boost, water temp, oil pressure, and air fuel gauges (boost functional currently) ( reading 9.5 lbs at peak boost )
3. Build a sub enclosure for my PPI 10 inch sub
4. Find and install aero wheels and body kit
5. make custom door pods or kick panels to hold my eclipse component set
6. find a suitable exhaust replacement for the 100% stock exhaust that is on the car.
7. recover the rear package shelf and headliner
8. remove factory air box and install a cold air system
9. figure out how to install an after market bov for the sweet turbo sound
Here are pics of the car:

ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 05:31 PM i decided to pull the factory radio and eq out and install my pioneer radio.
Goodbye factory cassette......

So long EQ.....

New headunit installed.......I was worried about this task because I was having a hard time finding an install harness.....it was all for nothing. It was probably the simpliest deck install ever.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/Picture024.jpg
I ran a vacuum line for my boost gauge (temporary black gauge) and decided to throw my ultra-lite autometer gauges in there just to see how they would look.

I know this is boring to most, but i had fun. Thats all I care about.
IronJoe 02-04-09, 05:44 PM Wow, that white looks GREAT. I usually don't like white cars, but that looks very good.
Consider getting the "staggered" gauge panel for your gauges. They are around $20 and are very nice...

thanks joe!!!!
where do i get this staggered panel?????
sounds better than the flat panel I was going to build.
CookinSPG 02-04-09, 08:55 PM Good looking car I love white c900's, my couple sugestions for you would be get some wiring and build a extention harness for your radio, and move your radio down to the console and your gauges up top, you will be much happier, this allow you to see your gauges, and 2 to opperate your radio safely being it is really just inches from your hand when on the shifter, as for the angled gauge pods, just search google you'll find em. There cheap. Look around for some wheels too 9k aero wheels are so played out, and there still not cheap. Come on its a stock rim. 500 bucks for stocks? Don't think so.
ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 09:12 PM I actually found some wheels from a 1985 900.
I believe they are aero wheels. i am getting them for 100 bucks semi-local.
I am having trouble finding 4x108 wheels that dont look like poop.
If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Post up pics or links....that would be great!!!!
Wheels from 85' 900 will not fit an 89'. You will need wheels for 87' + 900 or any year 9000 (86-98). I think mid year 87' the bolt pattern changed from 4x114 to 4x108.
ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 10:06 PM crap! crap! crap!
Try your luck at a local salvage yard or look on your local craigslist. If that dosen't work, you can always try greedbay. Maybe a local saaber on the board with sell you a set. I have a set of 16in aero's just sitting in my garage I would sell to you but cringe to think what the postage would cost.
ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 10:32 PM could u get me a quote?
are those the deep dish ones?
Palmer1980 02-04-09, 10:51 PM I have shipped wheels (no tires) for about 20 bucks a box.
I happen to work at a place that deals with UPS, and I was sending them to a business, so that saves you a few bucks.
budget 100 bucks for shipping.
ooopseyesharted 02-04-09, 10:54 PM i would pay 100 for shipping.
if they are deep dish.
i need that spg kit now.......come on guys.....help out the newb!!!!!!!
I have the 16in Aero's. The deep dish wheels are called the Super Aero's and those are a little harder to come by.
I have a partial spg/aero kit, the 6 middle panels and hardware. The front and rear bumper extenions were lost when my 90' was totaled in multi-car accident(sandwiched).
martymar 03-04-09, 06:40 AM saw some aeros on the Orlando c-list awhile ago...... look like the center caps were missing?
IronJoe 03-04-09, 09:34 AM thanks joe!!!!

Cheaper than when I bought mine. It angles the gauges toward the driver which is helpful.

I am going to check that out after I build my box for my ppi sub.
I will take pics as I go incase anyone wants to see how a pro does it.....LMAO
ooopseyesharted 04-04-09, 09:43 AM Ok, so I want to remove my front and rear bumper today to begin refinishing them.
I was hoping one of you could tell me what needs to be done to remove them?
I dont want to break anything as parts down here are hard as hell to find.
martymar 04-04-09, 11:50 AM ill give you a buzz this afternoon, im sure i can cover most of your questions bout these machines......
ooopseyesharted 04-04-09, 04:03 PM thanks for the call today martin
i will be calling you later today.
mattsaab 09-04-09, 10:56 AM hey ooops, if you get the chance, post up your process for refinishing the bumpers. I'd like to do that with mine too. Car looks good!
ooopseyesharted 09-04-09, 03:59 PM I will take pics matt.
I already removed my side moulding and repainted those.
They look much better without the white stripe in the middle.

Let's see some pictures then! I don't think i've ever seen one without the chrome stripe...
ooopseyesharted 11-04-09, 10:52 PM The paint on the front bumper is crappy, but i will post pics after I finish the rear bumper tomorrow morning. I have also decided to scrap my single ten inch subwoofer idea and use 2 8" subs.
I just got them for free in boxes I built last year for a customer.
Pics coming tomorrow.
ooopseyesharted 13-04-09, 05:05 PM I actually got a few things done over the last 2 days.
I redid my rear package shelf:

got my 8 inch subs ready to be hooked up:

I know you cant see it very well, but I also redid my inserts in my door panels:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/project008.jpg
Removed, repaint, reinstalled my side mouldings and repainted the front bumper
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/project007.jpg
I know it not much but it is coming along nicely
mattsaab 13-04-09, 05:08 PM dude I'm diggin the all black. What kind of paint did you use on the bumper? I think I'm gonna go with Krylon, that plastic paint.
IronJoe 13-04-09, 06:10 PM Looking great! Might I suggest something like this? I think it would look cool if you blacked out the bumpers and also the area underneath the black trim...
http://www.saabcentral.com/phpgallery/albums/album49/project007.jpg
ooopseyesharted 13-04-09, 06:26 PM you and me are always thinkin alike Joe.
I am actually going to do that. All black will be sweet!!!!
ooopseyesharted 13-04-09, 06:27 PM dude I'm diggin the all black. What kind of paint did you use on the bumper? I think I'm gonna go with Krylon, that plastic paint.
I used duplicolor black trim paint.
Worked great on the side moulding...not so good on the bumpers.
The Krylon Fusion paint may work a little better on those.

Could you do me a favor and put the black moulding back that is normally just below the door handle?
mattsaab 13-04-09, 06:34 PM you and me are always thinkin alike Joe.
I am actually going to do that. All black will be sweet!!!!
hint...hint...
blatant: get an SPG kit :D
also - do your back bumper too... I'm ordering up some krylon and I'll let you know how it works. Did you sand the bumper first? Maybe that's why it didn't work so hot there.
ooopseyesharted 13-04-09, 07:08 PM I did 800 on the front and rear bumper, but after seeing the front bumper, I didnt bother doing the rear one.
I would love to get an spg kit!!!!!!
mattsaab 13-04-09, 07:16 PM hmm that bad eh? Makes me wonder if I should bother trying to repaint them.... It looks good in the photos, though. What was the issue? poor coverage or it wasn't sticking well?
As for the spg kit, just keep an eye out on ebay, craigslist, local junkyard, or if you see one cruising around town go offer $500 for it - always worth a shot ;)
By the way - your interior looks really nice!
ooopseyesharted 13-04-09, 10:30 PM It didnt cover very well.
It stuck fine, just didnt cover well at all.
I am on the lookout for an spg kit....dont worry....LOL
and deep dish aeros too......oh yeah....a whaletail as well.
beantastic 17-04-09, 02:13 PM I know you are aware that I am getting a 900s with a complete airflow kit next week. If I decide to part the car and sell the kit (I will have to think hard on this mind you it has been my dream to have an airflow 900 for some time now) I will let you know for sure.

I would love to have one.
ooopseyesharted 19-04-09, 03:31 PM So this morning I woke up and went to Bob evan restaurant to meet up with a few friends for are every sunday breakfast.
On the way there, I was listening to my stereo and decided when i got home that I was going to install my new eclipse 6.5 inch speakers in my dash.
Those biscuits and gravy are always awesome...now on with the goodies.
I removed the speaker grill, traced the template, and cut the first hole with my dremel.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/project011.jpg
I had some leftover material from my door panel job and decided to use it on my speaker grills.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/project012.jpg
I mounted the speaker in the grill.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y229/oopseyesharted/saab%20900/project014.jpg
This is a bad pic, but they did actually come out very very nicely.

Here are a couple pics of my door panels.

now what is going to happen when your windshield fogs up though ;)
ooopseyesharted 19-04-09, 04:17 PM i live in florida my friend.
the only thing that gets foggy is your head from all the heat.
Looking good! I really like how your car is turning out keep up the good work
ooopseyesharted 20-04-09, 09:15 AM Thanks alot man.
Its all about enhancing the already good looks. I hate it when people try to completely make a car into something it isnt.
turbo1992 20-04-09, 10:21 AM Go to a paint jobber and ask for SEM Trim Black [code 39144]. This is very good, covers well, dries a satin black and is very durable. You can get it ready for a gun or in a rattle can. BTW...I just strated my body work this weekend. I am going with either a very dark grey metalic or solid black...perhaps pearl if I get brave. Either way I am planning to do the black lower section as suggested in this thread. I recently completed a 308 project and it looks great on those too ;)
It didnt cover very well.
It stuck fine, just didnt cover well at all.
I am on the lookout for an spg kit....dont worry....LOL
and deep dish aeros too......oh yeah....a whaletail as well.
mattsaab 20-04-09, 10:46 AM looking nice! I really like the door panels. Good job on the speakers too.
now you just need to black out those windows and get the whole black and white thing going on. ;)
ooopseyesharted 20-04-09, 07:01 PM tint is coming for sure. It is getting hot as hell down here.
tint is coming for sure. It is getting hot as hell down here.
Tints make the biggest impact on a cars look, how dark are you thinking about going? I've got 15% and I think that's about spot on, I'd like it maybe a little darker lol
Do any of your friends cars have dark tints so you can check them out?
ooopseyesharted 21-04-09, 05:00 PM I had limo tint on my last car (red 97 vw gti)
It was wayyyy too dark and it got me pulled over a few times as well.
If I get it tinited, it will be made legal.
30 in the front and 15 in the rear windows.
turbo1992 21-04-09, 05:13 PM Really?...LOL...I would say it's been pretty mild compared to the real heat you are about to see...this is nothing ;)
tint is coming for sure. It is getting hot as hell down here.
ooopseyesharted 21-04-09, 06:12 PM The other day it 93 down here....thats about 5 degrees from the high temp during the summer.
mattsaab 23-04-09, 10:25 AM The other day it 93 down here....thats about 5 degrees from the high temp during the summer.
I want to put some tint on mine as well - i was thinking 35. Not sure how it'd look though - darker might look better, as i have a champagne colored car
98 is your high temp? :D Up here in VA it gets to the 100's (occasionally) and it's muggy and humid as hell!
but I feel your pain.. it's gonna be 91 this weekend.
ooopseyesharted 23-04-09, 07:15 PM Its 100% here all summer......we dont see 100 degrees really......the gulf of mexico keeps us from getting up that high.
go with 28% tint.....not too dark, but it looks great
ooopseyesharted 05-05-09, 07:59 AM So over this past weekend I decided to give her a good wash and wax.
