greetings, i own an '89 9000 and it has been having a lot of problems so i bought a parts car for it. the parts car is an '93 9000 and when i got it i realized that the '93 is in far better shape then the '89 so it would be essayer to drive the '93 and use the '89 as a parts car. the problem is that i got the '93 from an auction and it does not have any keys. i know my '89 dose not have any micro chips in the key and i do not thing the '93 had one ether. so i am thinking i could switch the ignition key assembly from the other car and make my '89 key work in the '93. does anyone know how to remove the assembly? i am more then happy to poke around but i would like some direction. from what i have been reading, if it had a chip in the key it would cost my $1,200 to get new keys. i would really like to make it work with out spending that much money. the '93 also does not have any door handles and it would make my life a lot essayer to just be able to pull them off the other car. if anyone has any input please let me know. i am not going to work on the car for a couple of days but the more input i get the less of a chance i have at braking something when i start poking around. thank you.
I've never heard that chip on the 9k before. In any case you probably can do it provided there are no changes between 89 and 93.
I wrecked a 94cs a few years ago. I had three keys for it. I had only one on a 94cde I bought for a song. So when the 94cs was wrecked, I removed all lock related items and replaced on the 94cde. There are five lock cylinders, ignition, two front doors, center console and hatch.
Then a few more years someone rear ended the 94cde. When I got rid of it, again I saved all five lock cylinders. Later my 95cse lost one of the two keys. Again I installed the lock cylinders from the 94cs to it. Except on the 95 the hatch lock cylinder is a little longer. So the 95cse has four of the five lock cylinders replaced. I never used the hatch lock anyway so that's okay.
Wow, this sounds like exactly what i want to do. thank you so much yaofeng vbmenu_register("postmenu_1482225", true); for confirming that this is at least possible. i plan on working on the car tonight or tomorrow and i have removed door handles and things before, but how difficult is it to remove the ignition? i have never attempted something like that before. any direction you can provide would be appreciated.
