: Rear Anti Roll Bar upgrade DIY

Thought over 100 was a bit steep for the 22mm upgrade, so thought i'd have a go welding some 20mm bar onto the existing useless thing. Quite pleased with the results. Doesn't feel like a ship at sea over 100mph any more. :)

Interesting as most double stack them.

Yes..i've heard that, but isn't that like going from pointless to pointless x 2. I just cant see what the stock bar does, you could bend it with your own strength if you tried!!

I haven't done the math, but I don't know if the 20mm bar plus the 15 mm bar will be as stiff as a 22mm bar.

But it's certainly cheaper....;)

not really. doubling up will still add more rigidity. it's the same as the concept that you can snap a twig easily, but a bundle of twigs is very difficult. in this case the twigs are metal and not nearly that soft. :p

I intend on that being my next project. One could make a far bigger mistake in making a 6 point brace without such catastrophic results. I was going to make a rear anti-sway bar, but could not get it to be cost effective with 4130 chromoly. My metal supplier can only sell me a 20' and mcmaster carr needs a lot of money for a 6' length so with no remorse Nick got the business on that one.

']next project: diy 6 point brace?Oh no...not another thing to add to the list ! I'm only in the infant stages of strengthening the car before i power her up...haven't even heard of this one. I'm only aiming for 300hp not 500 like some of you lunatics !:D Took me hours to get that bar the right shape, 6 point brace sounds a bit complex for me. Rob.

Did You add second stock one? Or got the stock one doubled by adding another bar - question is about the material that has been used...

Did You add second stock one? Or got the stock one doubled by adding another bar - question is about the material that has been used...I dont think you read the whole thread, i welded 20mm bar to the stock piece....Hardness ?...i dont know, just a piece i had in the yard. Trying to improve the handling on the cheap, and it seems to have worked quite well. Lets face it , i was driving with the stock bar off for a while and it felt no different.

But it's certainly cheaper....;)Come to think of it, when i was thinking about doing this i was doubting using 20mm because it might become too stiff. I'd be amazed if 15mm plus 20mm is more flexible than 22mm, especially welded parallel to it.

it's actually not as hard as you'd think.... not that i've done it but i would take a few sketches on the drawing board;)

Right then, you do the drawings, i'll knock a few up , then we'ee start selling and split the profits 50/50.....:D .....no problem!
