I have a 96 9000 aero and somehow my horn for the lock with the transponder and also the alarm does not work. Sometime before things completely stopped I would notice that the horn would from time to time not beep when I pressed the lock/unlock button. After numerous clutch problems, the fourth time or so that the engine split from the tranny, the horn stopped. All fuses are good and the horn works when pressing on the wheel, but not when the alarm is set off or locking/unlocking the car. I assume that no connections were missed during the clutch replacements, this could be where the problem is though. I suspect its a relay problem, since i need to pull the dash anyway for another project, i might as well fix this problem aswell. I am unsure of which relay i should take a look at. The locks work and the flashers flash but no horn, same with the alarm system, all works fine just no horn. Are there any relays in the alarm module, maybe this could be where the problem is. Also one more note, the alarm sound is the full horn while the lock/unlock is the light horn sound, maybe half as loud. Any info would be apprecited, thanks.
Bump because my dash and gauge cluster are out. I still haven't found the problem, I know its not the horn relay in the engine compartment, or any fuses. It seems that the central locking unit is connected to the anti-theft unit. Could it be that the central locking unit sends a signal through the anti-theft unit, and as the anti-theft units disarms/arms and beeps to let you know?? I have been surfing around my saab Mitchel wiring diagrams and this seems like it could be it, i don't know if its worth it to get another anti-theft unit as this might not even be the problem.
the alarm horn is not the same as the normal horns.
the alarm one is between the LH front panel, above the LH front wheel. from the engine bay, you will see near the battery 2 wires go through a rubber grommet, and a decent sized nut with a bolt through it. that is the nut holding the horn in place, and those wires are the alarm horn wires.
also, central locking and anti theft are 2 separate boxes, with the anti theft receiving the remote signal (antenna of this being located in the rear view mirror), then sending this to the central locking unit to lock/unlock.
I checked the plug, it seems that i get some voltage every time lock and unlock. Unfortunalely I only have digital multi meters so I can't quite tell how much. The problem has to be in the horn then, I wonder if its common for these horns to fail?
horns can fail, so i guess yours could have.
I just transplanted the immobiliser/alarm and central locking from my '95 aero into my project car, and thwn i tested the remote locking, i did discover my alarm horn sounds kinda sick.. it had been sitting doing nothing for a good 18 months, so hopefully it comes good with use, otehrwise, i wont be replacing it
My local junk yard just got in a 900 se. Do they have the same alarm horn as the 9000??
