So today I finally got the car started (after a year and a half of not running!) and figured id make a project thread. Car got parked prob 5 or 6 years ago rof a developing 'grab' in the steering, and its been down hill since. My dad kept it for a project for me, but it kinda got forgotten about. So we've finally got it to start and it idles on its own with a charged battery, so were bringing the dead battery home and charging it and hopefully well have the car home tomorrow so I can start working on it! And I promise as soon as I get it home Ill post Lots of pics.

The Goal
-Get the car to a decent inspectable/sellable condition, and to get it VERY clean. Its prob gonna be more along the lines of a restoration than anything else.

The Car
-1988 Saab 900t Convertible
-Auto Trans
-Red exterior
-Tan interior

Wish List/To Do
-About 10 car washes
-Clean Engine bay
-New hoses for engine (most are cracking/disinagrating)
-Oil change/Basic tune up
-New interior. Current carpet/seats are trashed, carpet might be salvagable, but seats are falling apart, reskin mabye?
-Clean everything else in interior (if I wanted to repaint or re finish some stuff what would be my best bet?)
-Dash trim is falling off
-New driver side mirror
-Fix dent in hood if possible (Pics/questions to follow)
-Leaking Roof?
-Paint/refinish exhaust manifold, downpipe if possible (for asthetics)
Ima stop now cause the longer this list gets the more depressing it gets.

BUT like I said Pics are coming as soon as the car gets here and it stops raining!

Brought the floor mats home and finally got around to them, took some pics, and now they are in the washer, see how that turns out, hopefully they are salvageable. Also have a steam cleaner I thought about using. Any advice yall have on cleaning/refinishing carpet?

from reading your first post sounds like it may be worth getting an accident damaged car and just nabbing the entire interior out of that!

Finally got a charged battery in it, and the spare on it to replace the totally dead tire. And now its home! Washed the outside for about 2 or 3 hours in the rain lol Also the carpets came outta the wash looking brand new! Two things that are dissapointing though is the headlights dont turn on when I turn the switch and the roof doesnt react at all when I press the button, but thats for another day, so as promised here are some pics.

Interior pictures will come when it stops raining.

Im also pretty sure most of the side trim is in the trunk, but the car needs alot of trim pieces, for like the sides, bumpers, ect.

I was suprised how good it looked too, till it stopped raining.. its really bad lol, its been repainted at some point with like a hundred dollar paint job I think, and its been sitting unprotected for ever, on a plus note, I got a brand new battery for it, and it starts now! And I got the head lights working again, just gotta get one tire, and a drivers side mirror and I think this thing could be back on the road soon!

Got the tire fixed and back on! Cant figure out why the roof wont work and the mysterious steering is still grabbing :(, but tomorrow Im getting a thermostat so hopefully shell run a little better, she needs alot more than that but for now its just bare basics to get her back on the road.

Also Does anybody have any experience/advice on putting the outside trim back on the door or clearing off left over glue??

there are a few things you can look at with the roof. You have to have the hand brake fully on with the warning light on before the roof will work. Also there is a very large fuse located on the passenger side inner wing, it has a large black casing with IIRC white cable going in and out. Undo this and make sure all terminals are clean. Also if the heated seat fuse is blown or removed the roof won't work. As you activate the roof switch you should hear clicking from the relays under the rear seat. I've just remembered. The switch itself may be dirty. Remove that, unclip the back and clean the terminals there.

That should be enough to be going on with!

I cleaned the switch, first thing I did haha I get clicking from under the seat (which is removed) but nothing form the motor..

I think you're left with the large fuse on the inner wing then.

Ok I had kinda given up on this car for owning 2 other Saabs haha but today out of curiousity/bordem I decided to try and start it again. I got it all wired again, got power, but nothing when I tried to start it, I attached a jump box to the power cable of the starter and tried to give it power and it clicked.. but I dont know what this means.. is the starter dead?
