Is my gearbox shot?

I don't drive my 9000 2.0 eco manual very far (about 4 miles to work), however It has a very slight rumble from the transmission, when in 3rd or 5th. It does not happen in 2nd or 4th, and barely noticable in 1st. It is very prominent when under load in 5th gear (when accelerating).
I have noticed that there is a slight oil leak coming from the rear of the gearbox underneath, and after further inspection, there is quite a bit of oil round the top rear of the gearbox where the selector rod enters it.
Will get the car on level ground and add oil (if I can find filler plug?).
Just wondered if anyone thinks TOO LATE?;oops:

That's usually the Bearing on the Mainshaft where the Pinion engages the Ring Gear.
It's cheaper to overhaul if you don't drive it 'til it stops.
