View Full Version : New 9-5 Owner
I recently just bought a 2001 9-5 SE and i was wondering if it was normal for the car to kind of whistle when accelerating. Is this just the turbo or might it be a problem. Thnx.

My '01 V6 whistled. I am convinced it was the transmission though, definitely not the turbo. I was concerned about it too but it's very normal. You can hear the whistle best from 2-4 seconds of this video:

The V6's turbo is so small you can barely hear it even with the windows down. My '04 Aero though... that's a different story, haha. zzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

That video posted by saabfun has a boost gauge located at 12o'clock over the temp and fuel gauge on the instrument panel. My 9-5 does not. Is that something I can upgrade with stock parts?
Oh and Good Luck with the new car!http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/smilies/cheers.gif
Cool video!

I looked into doing this by replacing the instrument panel with one that has a turbo gauge. Reasons why I didn't:
1.) Not guaranteed that it would work correctly
2.) The Turbo gauge (while closely approximating turbo) is not a real turbo reading. Instead of measuring air pressure the gauge is a manifestation of calculations done by the ECU.
3.) It was cheaper and more accurate to have an actual turbo gauge...
