: Project Pimp Wagon
As many on the forums will know, I spent many years driving and modifying the 2dr T16S shown below.

It didn't feature in the projects forum as most of the work was done before this section of the forums existed. Unfortunately Swedish Tin worms have munched out most of the structural parts at the front of the car, so the decision was taken to retire the vehicle, find a new donor and transfer all the good bits over whilst taking account of the mistakes I made first time around. 2drs, however, would appear to be endangered and so far only two have been found (must be black). One was unsuitable due to having rust in the wrong places and the other had a deposit put down, then blew its head gasket whilst on the ramps after which the owner refused to sell.
To tide me over, and scratch a very large 900 sized itch, I have now bought the following car which was meant to be just buy, drive and enjoy. Unfortunately, as is the way with these things, work is required and a project is born.
And so starts my first project thread.
The car is a much modified 900i 16v, yup a turbo motor has found its way under the bonnet, along with a host of other things.

Externally the body kit has been painted in body colour. The wheels are the Ronal 15x6J minilite copies, and the suspension uses the springs from the Turbo Cup cars, with Konis at the front and Bilsteins at the rear.
The rear windows are lightly tinted, and friends at work who have seen the car have decided that I must be a pimp, hence the title of the thread.
The interior is good.
Headlining has been replaced and is doesn't resemble a Bedouin tent :D

Dash board is uncracked.

The ghastly looking Kenwood will have to go, and its replacement relocated into the centre console to allow for some useful gauges to be added. I do have a Pioneer DEH-P77MP kicking around which should be suitable.
The seats may also go at some point to allow for something with a bit more side support.
Now for the interesting oily bits under the bonnet.
The injection engine is long gone and replaced with a TE-05 equipped turbo unit. The auto box that also sat under it has also gone and there now sits a manual with type 6 primaries.

The observant will notice that the radiator has been dropped (supports modified at the front) and the charge pipes pass over the top to the IC. Shortest possible inlet tract and the throttle response is hysterical. The actual IC is an old all alloy Saab one with the end tanks removed and new ones welded in place to give a cross flow. Sorry no pictures at the moment as I need to get the grill off.
Boost control is by the good old MBC, currently set to give about 1bar of boost (gauge just into the red) which is enough to cause serious wheel spin problems in 2nd. A bit more boost should see the same issue in 3rd :cheesy: . Forge recirc valve replaces the standard Saab plastic one.

Ignition timing has been modified (currently I have no idea what to) and is adjustable by means of the large bolt attached to the side of the timing capsule.

Fuelling is taken care of by a set of B234i injectors (around 20% bigger than the standard Bosch ones).

The fuelling is taken car of by everyone's favourite FSE unit which is mounted to the wing (wonder if vibration is main cause of failure?)

I currently have no idea as to the fuel pressure or AMM setting (should both be lower than stock) and so they are towards the front of my list of things to determine with the car.
Drive duties are taken care of using a 9000 flywheel and 240mm clutch so no worries of slippage. However, I have no idea as to whether there is a timing mark in the correct position for the engine.
The first stage of the project to determine exactly what the current settings are and what needs to be done.
The good news is that the car is totally solid underneath, and was actually stripped, rust proofed and waxoyled then rebuilt a couple of years back.
SaabHat93 21-12-08, 07:15 PM WOW.. That's a beautiful car you've got there, man. What a find. Take good care of it and let us know how everything goes. :cheesy:
Looks like you found a good one. Do you think those b234i injectors require an amm adjustment or can the stock ecu cope with that increase in injector size? Or does it depend on what fuel pressure the regulator is set at?

Its probably a combination of both. I know that when using 30# injectors that the AMM output is slugged with a resistor in the output wire and the fuel pressure adjusted, so I would expect similar would be required on this car (though maybe not to the same extent).
As mentioned, I currently don't what the settings are, just that the car goes well :cheesy:

The seller should be able to get the settings from the chap who did all of the conversion work.
Nice one Alex. Looking forward to seeing how you progress with this motor. I guess coming from a 2 door you'll be looking to add a rear brace?

The guy who did all the work is currently on holiday in New Zealand until the end of Jan. Any way, where's the fun in just looking things up.
Matthew 22-12-08, 01:06 PM Glad to see you've fallen off the wagon and are back in one (so to speak).
How does that bolt on the distributor vacuum capsule work to adjust timing?
What is your goal with the car? Track-day weapon or really nice fast road car? Going to fit any of the stuff from your 2dr?
I will remove the dizzy cap tomorrow and try and take a photo.
As for the 'mission statement', the car will probably be used as fun road vehicle, it's nearly set up perfectly for that already with an excellent compromise between comfort and control and may see a few tracks next year. I certainly don't want to turn it into a dedicated track hack and remove all creature comforts as with Martins cars.
I'm not sure what I would transfer over as things such as the brakes and IC wouldn't fit, the 16G hybrid is mighty tempting though, I'm getting used to the midrange hit already :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
I think I will keep the black cars goodies back for a proper project.

oi... thats my phrase :nono;
good luck with the progect alex... glad to see one of the masters getting back in the game, to teach us upstarts a thing or two

woywitka 06-01-09, 06:45 PM Congrats on the car, looks very sharp, sorry to hear about your other car.
I believe it was Matthew had told me you 2-door was seeing a decreasing amount of use; so perhaps this new care will revive the Saab spirit some more.
The new car looks ot be in very nice shape, well done.
The 2dr was parked up whilst I did some work on it but took rather a long time to finish it (money was needed elsewhere) and during that time the rot just took hold. The engine bay was never the best as the car had spent a fair amount of time on the motorways during its early life and the damp over the year or so just helped it on its way.
Aww, that old 2 door is SOO sexy.. I guess the new one is in good hands though, best of luck to ya!
First work on the car was completed this weekend.
The steering has always felt 'sticky' around every 180° position, especially on cold days. The gaiters on the track rod ends were also split. A refurbished rack was sourced along with new track rod ends.
And so began a weekend of fun. Pictures will follow next weekend (unfortunately I am away for the coming week), but suffice to say that if you have a RHD car fitted with a JT downpipe the steering rack will not come out as stated in the manual.
To save every one else time and effort the cross member needs to be removed allowing the exhaust to drop down creating enough space to make everything easy. Probably wasted 2hrs yesterday trying to get the rack out through a space that wasn't large enough.
ziedoniz 10-05-10, 06:21 PM Dug up this old thread.
Alex, can you post up a bosch part number of those B234i injectors? Today I had a chance to get a hold on a set of those, but they turned out to be just a little more flowing than stock Lh2.4 ones, so I passed them up. They were 0 280 155 002
ejenner 26-05-10, 04:17 AM I think those are the ones you want. They flow only slightly more than the stock injectors. It allows you to flow more fuel into the engine without compromising on idle quality or fuel consumption.
