Tonight on two separate trips my car needed multiple attempts to start it. It would start and run for just a second, then stall. Holding the gas pedal down while starting is what got it to run, and after that it was just fine. I have not had this problem at all before tonight.
My gas tank is full, for the record.
The entire fuel pump assembly was replaced several months ago with a used, low-mileage one, and this new issue is not at all like the symtom of an aging fuel pump ... so I don't think that's the problem.
I'm thinking/hoping I just need to replace the fuel filter. I'm just short of 120,000 miles, and I'd be willing to bet the filter is original, but I can't say for sure.
Am I right or barking up the wrong tree? Any help appreciated.
