Nothin' to do with GM :cheesy::o

The real Gripen JAS39 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JAS_39_Gripen#Gripen_NG), gets new duds, performance enhancements, added 2-seat capacity (ie: for RIO) and genuine GE powerplant (not warmed over Volvo unit) shared by the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet :D

Of course you'd have to put this on:

And go through a battery of tests to see if you qualify:

I really hope The Netherlands will choose the Gripen but it looks like the JSF will have a better chance. :(

http://www.defense-update.com/newscast/0808/260808_gripen_for_netherlands.html
The Hague, August 26, 2008: Saab is offering the Gripen NG (Next Generation) multi-role fighter to the Netherlands, in response to the Dutch request for proposals for a successor to the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16. Saab is offering 85 Gripen NGs, and a comprehensive logistical support package including spares, training and simulators.

According to Saab Gripen communications director Owe Wagermark, the price Saab is asking for the package is well within the 5.6 billion budget earmarked for the procurement of 85 F-35As (http://www.defense-update.com/products/f/f-35.htm). In fact, based on other proposals recently submitted by Saab, the Gripens are expected to cost less. I was surprised to read only a few countries have the Gripen and none of them Western European (besides Sweden).

Gripen fighters are currently in use in the Czech Republic, Hungary, South Africa and Sweden. Thailand has meanwhile ordered six planes, and interest has been expressed in Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, India, Norway, Romania and Switzerland.

Maybe Saab Aerospace needs to throw in some Turbo X's with the Gripen sales to sweeten the deal ;)
