what made you decide to get an old factory one instead of a new aftermarket unit such as this (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/Navigation/In-Dash/AVIC-F700BT) ? minimal price diff, ipod integration, bluetooth, voice commands, a lot of features.

That unit is hot my buddy has that in his charger i didnt go aftermarket because you lose the onstar feature door chimes and wheel controls also no one has a dash kit for the 9-7x to fit a radio of that size that i spoke too
so i went the factory route

How did you install it? Did you do it yourself? I was looking to do something similar and wanted to know if you could provide steps to remove the current and install the nav. Thanks

I was able to figure out how to do this on my own. Here it goes:

1. Carefully pull the instrument panel from the dash. There are about 12 clips that you will have to detach from the dashboard in order to gain access to the radio.
2. Remove the 6 screws that hold the radio and climate control module.
3. Remove the wires from the radio.
4. Mount the navigation unit in the dash. It is supposed to go on the bar that goes behind the dash but it will work as long as it directly on metal in the dash.
5. Plug in the navigation system

Pretty easy!! Hope this helps others that are doing this as well.

you don't have to plug in an antenna or anything? the truck already has one built in somewhere?

You do have to plug the antenna back in as well. There are two radio plugs, a nav plug and the antenna.

Yes - all the plugs are there. The part number I got was 10355783. It was brand new therefore did not require dealer programming. It even loaded with the Saab logo when I turn on my car. It fit absolutely perfect. Here is the guys name that I bought it from:

mark@suburbanwheelcover.com

He has the nav unit on ebay at a great $650 buy it now price. You do have to add the antenna and disc but the nav unit is perfect.

Ah so it is for sure the H3 radio. Excellente.

Can I ask you, does the RDS work for the regular radio stations or only XM?

My current radio only works for XM which is annoying. The 9-3 radio picks up all kinds of info for regular stations.

Thanks!

I am debating about buying OEM or getting another aftermarket type.
If OEM does enough then I'll stick with that. If not, then I'll go aftermarket.

I am happy that I already have the OEM Navigation system in mine, but from experience you get more bang for your buck with the aftermarket. My wife has a Garmin nüvi 770 in hers mounted with a ProClip http://www.proclipusa.com/ specifically designed for her 9-7X. Comes with North America and Europe Maps, bluetooth hands-free calling, and FM transmitter traffic alerts.

*If you go the aftermarket route, be sure to take in consideration the Constant Power From Cigarette Lighter Sockets:

FM, AM and XM all display the radio station name, artist and song title. XM displays the information all at once while the FM and AM display the information in pieces. In my opinion the steering wheel controls are priceless making the OEM the only option for me.

Yeah I have a nuvi 660. Very nice, but I would really like to have it integrated into the car itself.

I have the bluetooth and FM traffic. No one can hear me on the bluetooth of the nuvi anyway and the FM traffic is pretty inaccurate for the 6 months I had it.

How is the Nav of the OEM unit? I know it's not as good as garmin (that is the best in my opinion) but does it get you from point a to b?

Thanks
Jim
PS I've am considering the Pionner AVIC F90BT that has everything but is not built in, so thats a big negative. It's also about $300 more than the $650 you can get an OEM one for

Does anyone know if the factory nav from the H3 will install on a 2005 9-7 as seamless as it does on 2006+ model years. I only ask because 1. I have a 2005 and 2nd Nav was not an option in the 05 models so I am wondering/assuming that there is no nav antenna for 2005.

The nav unit itself is nice. I bought a 2005 disc off ebay for $60 so it is as current as the disc. New ones go for $199 but it functionally works great. It has a slot behind the head unit for the nav disc and a separate slot for a music disc.
Here are the part numbers I purchased that work:
Head Unit # 10355783
Nav Antenna # 10355766
Disc # 15906573

I bought the antenna for $14.99 from Jennings Chevy - found them on ebay. They don't sell the item on ebay but if you contact them they will order it for you at cost.

Yes, it's not as good as garmin and Yes, the OEM does get you from point a to b.

Here is the nüvi 770 in my wife's '05 9-7X:
