Ive got a Nurburgring trip coming up in September......has anyone ever taken their 95 on the track?? Im thinking uprate the brakes (suggestions please) and good quality tyres.
Do you think it would be a fun car to take to the Ring.....or should I be aiming to look for a suitable track car.....budget is approx £3k for a track car if i was to get one...maybe a Skyline R33 GT25T?? Or Subaru Impreza 1995 or so?
Im having trouble deciding what is right so please feel free to give me suggestions! :cheesy:
Wouldn't normally do this but buy an MX-5 for 2k, spend a bit on tyres and brakes, run it for the rest of the summer inc the trip to the Ring and then sell on afterwards. It will be a lot more fun than the 9-5 and you'll be surprised how capable and fun the Mazda can be.
When we were in Germany, we took our rental A6 to the ring, and drove slowly just so we could keep it in one piece. I think you would have no problem with the 9-5 unless you are going for super fast lap times, or if you don't want to possibly crash your own car.
Take the 3K and rent a GT3RS or M5 from this company: http://www.autegmotorsport.com/track_car_rental
There are some others companies that just rent track cars, this site seems to give a lot of good information about how to do it and what you should do before showing up. Never having personally been to Nurburgring I don't really know if it is good info or not. http://www.heiser.net/documents/nurburgring/#car
However, having rented a normal car in Germany I can say the paperwork does say you not allowed to take the car on a track(nothing about topping it out on the autobahn though:cheesy:.) Your also not allowed to take certain cars(BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, and VW) to Poland, as the boarder guards kindly pointed out.
Kermit, I have to agree with how good the MX-5 is to drive! The RX-8 drives just as good but with more power!
Everything is booked....so I have 2 months or so to decide. I think I will be buying something like an MX-5 or 200sx or similar - I think they will be much more fun :cheesy:
As a mate of mine said yesterday - 'it's always nice to have a new toy' lol

I think it could be fun to take the Aero around the ring. Just to find it's limits in corners and such. I wouldn't go balls out on it... there are some pretty loooong straights followed by a sharp corner... lol
e36 m3 would be a great drive actually...im gonna get on autotrader now and check them out! Every bloody car that is good value has been sold when i phone up
lol yes Chris, M3 has proved hard to find a good one - problem is digital mielage is soooo easy for people to clock...so it 'low mileage' is kinda scarey!
300ZX twin turbo in manual....that would be ideal!:cheesy: Phoned 5 people now and all are sold

Both those E30's are great! The EVO would be ideal. Ive been looking at Turbo MR2's...now those could be ok too.
I don't want to take the Saab because i use it as a family car that i cant bear to get stone chips on and dont want it to rattle or vibrate from any part of it (im a freak i know) and I need a track specific car because Im going to be using it for other track days and events....and storage, garage facilities and insurance will be no problem because it is all covered by my workplace....
But i gotta get it right cos once i buy it, its here to stay:cheesy:

What about a Toyota Supra Coupe...? They are about for around £3k, and are built like the proverbial brickouthouse and are virtually indestructable. You can find the 3.0i non-turbo's with the manual gearbox, often with the optional fitted LSD. Good fun car, a guy who I used to rally with had one, and it wasn't slow, and was much fun with the LSD:lol:
The later 3.0i turbo versions are often auto's, which is a pity.
Just looked it up and the box was the Getrag one, also seen that the 2.5 non-cat versions were the highest power ones at 202hp, (excepting the radical special EVO versions that followed) and the 2.5's also got the electro-hydraulic LSD......:cheesy:
Xalfa - you are absolutely right - i am not going to this from a competitive fast as i can angle - it is to enjoy the driving and learn from others - i am going with some seriously experienced people that i have had the pleasure to meet through my work - and my co pilot is a mechanic who is a Bosch specialist and has worked on cars such as the Ford GT, Lambos, Ferraris at our work place - so the Cossie in his words were 'This car is easy, no problem':cheesy: And so I am in good hands!
i have been advised that Gran Turismo 4 has the Ring....so my wife has agreed the PS2 will be put to good use:cheesy: and so i will practice and read up as much as i can!
AEROPILOT - that info on the gearbox has put great smile on my face! No cat means nice free revving power - it really is a punchy engine!:cheesy:
