The fuse blocks are way too far away for the hardwire that came with my Whistler Pro-78.

I came across these directions by Viscouse on how to "Hardwire a Radar Detector" in a 9-3:

http://www.mrandmrs-g.net/saabradar.htm

Has anyone done this in a 9-7X?

If so, I would love to see similar directions. :D

not sure how the 9-7 wiring is but i would just run it off the cigarette lighter wires, just tap into them and use some wire to splice into on the hardwire kit to make the end of it longer to reach.

IMHO, I tnink running it off the cigarette lighter wires would defeat the purpose. By going to the overhead console the wires are hidden and the detector does not stand out quite as much.

I used a small flat screw driver in between the two map lenses to CAREFULLY pry one of the lenses out. There are pins on both sides of the lens near the seam that hold it in. Once you pop the center of the lens out, there is a tab on the opposite side that holds it in. Just slide the lens out. Repeat for the other lens. Then look for the two black screws that were behind the lenses. Unscrew those next using a Torx T-20, be carefull not to drop the screws in between the seat and and e-brake. Next pull down on the rear of the console. Once there is about an inch gap or so to the headliner, work your way to the front of the console and pull down to unclip the front clips (one on each side). It may be a little difficult and require some wiggling. From there unplug the harness and you're done. To reinstall reverse the order - Harness, clips, screws, lenses.

After looking around, I decided not to splice into any of the wires there and am going to try what I did in my 9-3SS ARC:

I ran the hardwire that came with my Whistler Pro-78:

- up the rearview mirror stalk
- along up in the front headliner lip
- down insided the Driverside A-Pillar
- into the fuse box from the inside

The wire is hidden for a clean install and the radar detector is directly below the rearview mirror so the Rear looking Laser Detector is not blocked.

Of course, I will need to splice a longer wire in order to reach the fuse box under the back seat. I also just ordered 30 amp pigtail mini ATM fuses to assist in this endeavor. These Mini Fuses have a cable coming out to power accessories directly from the fuse box.

Success:

I ran the hardwire that came with my Whistler Pro-78:

- up the rearview mirror stalk
- along up in the front headliner lip
- down insided the Driverside A-Pillar and Dash
- back along the Floor Trim
- attached the ground wire to a screw on the front bottom of the driver's seat
- attached red wire into the fuse box under the rear seat from the back using a 30 amp pigtail mini ATM fuse:

I just fought with this and ended up running it off the ignition module located behind the key inside the center console. You will need to take out the 8 screws holding in the plastic bucket and pull it out. Next reach in and you will find a small box just to the front of the area. It is velcro'd down. the wiring is fairly simple. I used inline connectors to avoid cutting wires. Just clamped the red and black (trying to go from memory - could have been yellow) and then plugged in the remote wiring harnes in. Ran wiring down though the console to and along until I reached just inder dash and mounted remote switch then fished wire under dash and along riser and head liner to come out with mirror wiring. Looks good and only comes on when ignition is on.
