I have a 99 9-5 with manual rearview mirror (doesn't autodim). I notice that there are 03 versions of the rearview mirror that have multiple garage door openers, compass, autodim, exterior temp, and sensors on it.
Is it possible to do an upgrade to my poor rearview mirror to this new hotness? Has anyone done it??
It is possible and it will partially work. As long as you feed power to the mirror it will autodim, use garage door opener and compass (all built into mirror). However, it will not show you the temperature; for that you would have to tap in to the sensor signal that feed the SID and that might be more hassle than reward. As for how to do it - check you this good old website with lots of Saab DIY goodies

Every hot wire in the gray loom gives me 12V whether the key is in the on or off position. On top of that I am now getting a "Service Theft Alarm" message on my SID... Even after I re-assembled everything.
What the ****????? Am I just thick???
<update....>
The Service Theft Alarm message is gone. I left the car alone for an hour or so and it went away all by itself.
I am still looking for a switchable power source that is easy to get to. If I don't find one I am ready to say sod it and put the mirror up on classifieds.
You need to tap the sunroof motor for a switched power source. I just went through this to try to put my radar detector in up by he mirror. The center loom connects your brake lights which of course operate regardless of the car being on or off.
The only way to get at the area is to partially remove the headliner. Being that i prefer my headliners to not be droopy, i decided against it. Unfortunately they are never the same once you start touching them. If you insist, look on WIS at sunroof motor replacement as well as headliner removal/replacement.

Thanks 19016c (and everyone else from this thread)
I'm not sure if I am going to bother with this at all actually. Way more trouble than it's worth only to hot have to flip a little tab on a mirror.
I am going to give a call to the dealer tomorrow to see if the auto-dim was an option on the 1999 at all and if there is an intermediary OEM harness that I could buy. Otherwise into the classified it goes.

For this to work correctly don't you also have to find a reverse wire so the mirror will lighten up when you shift into reverse?
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
