What's the diameter of the rear tail pipe....2.5"? Has anyone swapped out the stock muffler? If so what did you go too?
I put on a Magnaflow exhaust system for the Trailblazer SS. It's 3" mandrel bent stainless steel all the way. It's actually pretty quiet. The only downside is that the TBSS has an extra hanger on the rear muffler. Otherwise, it fits perfectly. Here are a few bad pictures. Please let me know if you can see them. Thanks.

Tim,
Thanks and the pictures look good, the issue I have is I just picked up my 97x a couple of weeks ago and the only problem is with the oval exhaust tip. Looks like the previous owner backed into something and its pretty twisted up. Now being its welded onto the tail pipe I'm trying to find a replacement oval exhaust tip without spending big $$$ on a completed new muffler.
Do you have any idea where I might be able to buy a new oval tip that would bolt or get welded on?
Here are a few options from Magnaflow. I'll bet that you can order a new tip from the Saab dealer as well. I think the exhaust is 2.5 or 2.75" at the rear.
3" inlet- a bit big, but it should still work.

Here are a few with a 2.25" inlet. The inlet may be a bit small.

I've always liked the tips offered by Thermal Research & Development (http://www.thermalrd.com/about.htm)
Their mufflers (http://www.thermalrd.com/mufflers.htm)
Their tips (http://www.thermalrd.com/tips.htm)
The TBSS exhaust systems fit, but we're missing the rear hanger. Luckily, it's available from any GM dealer. The part number is 15786935. It includes the hanger, rubber bushing, and the mounting hardware. It uses holes which are already in the rear frame. This is a MUCH better solution than welding a new hanger onto the frame. I just installed this rear hanger onto my car. It makes a big difference in the appearance of the exhaust and should keep it much more stable. I think it's probably even worth it for custom exhaust systems. The price is $33.71. I'll try to post some pictures next week.

Edit:
In comparison to my pictures above, the exhaust tip no longer sags down from the bumper. It is also now roughly centered in the bumper cutout.
