View Full Version : Vibration With Hard Right turn??

Over the past couple of weeks, and after the installation of a new set of tires, I've noticed an intermittent and short lingering vibration that seems to coincide with making a hard (nearly to lock) right hand turn.
The vibration almost feels as if the tire treads are filled with rocks and running over pavement or like an old 4x4 is running with the hubs locked in.
The vibration only seems to occur when turning to the right and will disappear once the vehicle is straightened out.
Feels like it may be some AWD system engagement issue.
Ring any bells with anyone?
BTW: 2005 4.2 litre
I think we may be having a similar problem. We haven't had a chance to investigate yet. Any news on this problem?
Simular issue also... Until 20 m.p.h is establised (front wheel drive system activated-Gm's way of AWD vehicle) the dealer states nothing can be done to fix problem> Replaced with a performance tire (other than Dunlop) and problem still persists

Sounds like the rear differential clutch plates are not releasing as intended. You can have the rear differential serviced as fluid contamination can cause a non release issue.

That was the recommendation from the service advisor 'to try" on my second visit of 4 for this issue--still no luck> Will say one good thing the service dept.(even though recently sold this vehicle) for SAAB on these vehicles - probably did their best to understand an ineffective, automatic, 4wd system on the 9-7X

Had a somewhat similar problem recently with mine, the dealer called it crow hopping and replaced the transfer case.

there's a TSB addressing this issue. it calls for transfer case replacement.
there's also a "bump/jolt while stopped" issue that's addressed in a TSB as well. if i recall correctly this calls for a differential replacement.
if we're still under warranty we can get this all done by Saab.

Looks like it's my turn for this problem as well .
I just took a road trip and now in addition to fuel guage problems, the right rear wheel is crow hopping during right hand turns in both drive and reverse. Similar to dragging a foot, a pretty disconcerting issue to say the least.

I just returned from my service appointment. The Tech Bulletin solution was for the Techs to replace the Rear Differential Fluid with an Updated Fluid w/Additive and a new Gasket. Apparently, that seems to have fixed the problem and I will just have to wait to see if this was a permanent solution.
Something about this reminds me of the Transmission coolant coupling fix for the '03 9-3 I used to own.
Virtually all of these AWD trailvoys do it (Rainier, Bravada, TBSS, 9-7X). It's a function of the limited slip differentials. They're causing the driveline to bind. It's bound to happen any time you're at full lock. I tend not to worry about it. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.

did anyone notice an improvement after swapping differential and or tranny fluid? Mine has 43k miles on it and does this intermittently, but at 50k miles they reccomend changing all of it then . Dumb question though, how could this help? What is it in the fluid that causes this?
