View Full Version : Do you regret your 9-7x purchase/lease

don't get me wrong, i like my 9-7x and the price was right. I came out of a 9-3 and i'm basically paying the same price (on a lease). But the gas mileage sucks (compared to the 9-3). I also am not happy about the storage capacity for the front seat driver. there is no place to put your stuff and the cup holder is a joke (I don't even open the pop-out one).
The car rides and looks great, but i'd like to go back to my 9-3. too bad it's so hard to get out of a lease.
Buyer's remorse sucks:( Just hold on, the 9-4x will be out soon! And hey--you have the best iteration of that platform so that must be worth something.

i do not regret buying the truck itself, my only niggler is the fact that with these rising fuel prices the 4 cyl. mode doesn't come on more often to save me more gas, LOL

No Buyer's remorse here. We absolutely love our 2005 9-7X. First Year Made + Time = Valuable Classic. :D

I don't have any regerets either in purchasing our 2005 Linear.
Just like any other car there are some personality items and some idiosyncrasies that are inherent in the 9-7... driver's cup holder, sluggish tranny shift points, not very good mileage, maybe some others. But all-in-all this is very nice truck and we like it very much.

After thouroughly test driving Acura, Infiniti, Volvo and MB we decided on a 07 Altitude Edition. We just kept comparing everything else to it. So in short, no remorse we love it.

I just got an '08 9-7 I have the same issues. It's not at all good on gas and that fold out cup holder broke the 2nd day I had it and there's just no storage room. All that being said, I love this car and after driving it for a few minutes totally forget about those little problems haha!

It wouldn't be a Saab if it had a GOOD cupholder.
I don't think they have had a decent cupholder since... well, ok... NEVER. ;)
Over 2 years of ownership and no regrets, well maybe better gas mileage but I knew that before I bought it.

We all know Jet fighters don't have cupholders :D, but in seriousness my saab is the first car I have owned WITH a cupholder.
Yes. Overall, I regret the purchase.
According to a recent newspaper article, over 93% of Saab owners say they regret their purchase, and oddly enough over 70% of these people buy another Saab.....go figure!

I'm sorry but anyone who bought this CEO's brainstorm after thought deserves buyer's remorse.

What article is this? Can you give us a link?
We turned in our 2006 97x yesterday and picked up a brand new 2008 GMC Acadia. More room than the Saab and more comfortable. I enjoyed the Saab for a while and I am not going to bash it, but I was less than pleased with the AWD in the Saab. Making noise when turning and binding. I won't miss the rattles when going over bumps. What I will miss is the leather and the V8 power on the highway.
I sat in an Envoy Denali and it is almost the same as the Saab. Besides a few things like suspension. I walked away from the Saab with no regrets except that we didn't put more miles on it before turning it in. Good luck to everyone that still owns one or is going to purchase one. They are nice, but with 2 kids and a mother in law to drive around I needed the 3rd row in the Acadia.

I don't know.
I really like the pop out one in my 9-5, It is damned near perfect, as long as I don't try to put large things in it. I usually only bring small soda cans with me in the car though.
That being said, a driver of a car should be focused on just that. Driving. Anything that distracts from the road (Drinking, eating, cellphone, screaming kids in the back seat, confusing radio controls, nespaper(!?), shaving(!!!) or text messaging/emailing(!!!) ) are a problem :p
If doing what you are supposed to behind the wheel, there should be no need for a cup holder :p

No issues at all here...over 2.5 years of trouble free ownership
Where can I start?
Just in the first year - vehicle lunges forward at stops-never fixed, stability control failure, warning lights would not turn off, vibration from wheels which third party fix after several trips to the dealership, rear axle "clanking "noise in low gear, leveling system had to be replaced-twice,passenger side mirror rattled-never fixed, driver seat replaced, wind noise from the b-pillar.
second year - excessive play in rear axle/differential replaced, leveling system (again) replaced again after 2 month wait, a/c stopped working after 25,000 miles, cupholder replaced, loose sway bar brackets, shifter assembly cover replaced, axle housing replaced, radio swapped out........
Need I go on. Happy with current "employee pricing" program to get out of vehicle A.S.A.P... Will say this- vehicle was extremely fun to drive after 60,000 miles when not in for repairs. Best of luck to all 9-7X owners-will stick with the 9-5 currently owned with no problems at all.

I owned a ’03 9-5 SC and a ’04 9-3 SS. I had a lot more problems with those two than with my current ’06 9-7x. In fact so far I have had no problems at all. (apart from some idiot scratching it at a parking lot).

Even with the current 9-5 '06 and a previously owned '99 9-5 SE v-6, combining the two vehicles still didn't have half the problems than the 9-7x

Still don't regret it. Love my drive to the office and back every day.
Right after I bought mine, the 9-7X Aero came out. I regretted not buying the Aero. I soon got over it. I realized that if I wanted the bigger motor and some of the other parts from the 9-7X Aero, the $15k difference between my 5.3i and a new Aero would pay for it and then some (LS7's are going for that much now!).
Since then, I have looked at a few cars longingly and thought about trading it in. The truth is, I really like it and if I had to buy a SUV again I would probably do the exact same thing. I think the 9-7X is the best all-around mid size SUV under 45k. Because I'll probably always want something capable of towing a car on a trailer, I'll probably keep it and just buy more cars after my loan is paid off.
On another note, mine has been trouble tree. The tires picked up a dozen nails or so, but the Saab dealer fixed them under warranty.

Over 2 years of ownership and no regrets, well maybe better gas mileage but I knew that before I bought it.
But the difference between the milage you get with this heavy truck, and the much smaller 9-5 SC isn't that huge.
14 MPG city (4.2i 9-7x) vs 17 MPG city (2.3T 9-5 SC).
Wow. That's not a big difference in mileage. I generally average 14-17 mpg city depending on traffic and how I drive. Highway, my best was near 22 mpg, but the average is close to 20 mpg.
On another note, the LT376/480 crate engine (a 480 hp version of the LS3) is only $6300, comes with a two year GM warranty, and essentially drops right in. For anyone upset about not buying an Aero, this is probably the best way to go.

I have the 5.3 engine and found it to be more than adequate. The Aero has really bad mileage, takes premium fuel etc. I just dont see the Aero as a daily driver unless you don't mind filling it up all the time.

Oh. And the 9-3 SC Aero: 15 MPG City.
