Hi all.

I am taking the spg to the strip Sat. 4 cylinders of fury baby.

I am running a stock 900T spg. The only intellegent thing I can think to do before saturday is put the 2 best tires I a can on the front. Pull the back seat out, and try not to bang agiainst the RPM cutoff in first and second.

Will it break 18 seconds?

Will it break?

Quoted from my racing teams forum:

What if a part falls off my rig during the race?

I believe that's a two run penalty.

So any ideas on race prep before then?

Oh I did paint the rig black, that should drop a half second off ET.

I ran in the 16's last year, 6 times and nothing broke, no weight reduction, this year I want 15/14's, with the tuning and prehaps weight reduction.

I would take out your drivers side headlight, to provide direct flow to the IC. I remember when I changed my headlights, I drove around the block without one, and noticed the difference.

-Up the base boost via wastegate for a few safe psi.

-Octane booster, and premium fuel will help you hold higher boost for longer as well.

-Could take out rear parcel shelf/spare tire and tools as well.

Good luck :D

EDIT, I dont think thats an spg fyi.

Yeh, I thought that... no tupperware...

As for "two best tyres on front... will it break..."

I'd have thought having more grip on the drive wheels would put more stress on the gearbox, because you're not spinning the power away. There's always a weak link in the chain - sometimes it's loosing traction, sometimes it's things going "Bang!" - three guesses which is preferable?

The bang often happens when the spinning tyres suddenly get traction.

not sure if the headlight removal trick would do much at a strip. I do it when I take my SPG to a roadcoarse & it helps a lot with lowering the temps but I am also going 40-130 mph for 20-40 minutes. At a strip being stopped for a few seconds I doubt the light removal would do much, just be sure to pop the hood after each run to let as much hot air leave as possible.

With weight reduction, like you stated the rear seat helps due to it weighing about 100 lbs. Spare tire also helps a little but I doubt you would see very significan gains with those items yanked.

depending on how hight your boost gauge goes I would think somewhere in the 16's is what you will do. Hard to say if it will break, just depends on how hard you are in 1st gear, that's VERY hard on the trans :(

Isn't this why slipping the clutch is recommended?

2nd gear can take more strain than first. Worth trying a 2nd gear start? If you burn your clutch its not the end of the world, pretty cheap and easy job compared to the transmission.

Great tips guys.

I pulled the rear seat yesterday, it was heavy. I just re insured the car. When I sent the vin it came back as a 900 Turbo SPG, can I give a vin no to someone to check?

I apreciate all the ideas. I would like to force air on the IC but I dont know if I'll have time.

No! Don't do a second gear start!!! Second gear means the gearbox is taking even more strain and force in trying to move the car from stationary, and second is still fragile!! The lower the gear the less torque is needed to get the car rolling so the less punishment on your gearbox.

Use first, you'll be quicker and IF you do break it, its much easier to live with a broken first gear than a broken second out in the real world.

Yes, I will shift straight through like normal. I just want a good 60' time.

double post.

I ran 2 16's and 2 18's due to missed shift 2nd to 3rd.

These are not race cars. I saw race cars.

Yeah the 900 Turbo isn't a race car. But the car will cover A-B faster than a race car in real world, nothing will hold you at that 50-80 mi/h

I, for one, would rather have a race car to drive around everyday from point A to B.

No, they are not, but I like your attitude.
