Hey i have a a 9-5 SE so its the v6 turbo, and i want my turbo to be heard. should i go with an intake and a aftermarket blow off vavle? or just an intake? and if i should go for a BOV what are soem websites that have some good ones? um what kind of blow off valves are good and bad for my car?
You'll need a "diverter valve" or "recirculating valve" instead of a standard bov. I didn't get any real sound change from adding a Forge DV. The open intake was what made the dramatic sound change. This is on a 2.3, I don't know how well an open intake helps the turbo sound on the V6. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with better information about the V6.
An atmospheric dump valve cause the T7 computer to think there's a leak in the system and it cuts boost.
If you want the "whossh" sound, just fit an open air intake.
Fitting an upgraded recirculating dump valve (Forge et al) merely improves the boost control and response of the valve and they are less prone to breaking like the bosch unit. There not required for a standard or slightly tuned engine. They also tend to be a bit of under bonnet bling

I've got a 2.3T and am also looking to mod the turbo for some extra sound, Not sure if I should go the BOV route, I would need an explanation from someone where to get one and how to install it.
As have been mentioned before, replacing your bypass valve with an aftermarket unit will not result in any difference in sound. Furthermore, your saab is a Trionic 7, so it uses a recirculating valve. Therefore, installing an atmospheric dump valve (or BOV) will only confuse your car's ecu. Installing an open air filter will help create that "whoosh" sound...although it won't be as audible as you'd expect. Saabcog has a really neat blog with useful Saab goodies; I'll shoot you a link:
To answer your original question - the only way to hear your turbo is to use an open intake (k&n pod filter or similar). The 9-5 MUST have a recirculating bypass valve to run. A discharge to atmosphere blow-off valve will cause the car to stall.
If you use an open intake, you will be able hear the discharge of boost since there is a whole lot less piping for the noise to get through.
There are plenty of threads discussing open intakes.
As for how loud - the 3.0t used a tiny little turbo generating a tiny little bit of boost, so I doubt the sound would be spectacular.

I have one on my V6 and its pretty loud especially in the mornings when it gets nice cool air. I love it get it now if you can lol. I make sure everyone who gets into my car listens to my turbo first and then my subs I'm pretty sure its the sound your looking for.
