I just had my TD04 installed yesterday and OMG it feels good. Even on the lpt software the car feels so powerful and lively. All i need now is the Aero ECU. Oh and for the boston peeps (Mecca Motors) got Tech II so feel free not to go to the dealer.lol
Lol yeah chris is right i did mention that. but yeah man i am telling you my car feels so damn good man. I know when I get the aero ECU it will probably feel so much better but the top end power is great. I cant say I have felt a turbo like that before so that why i am so happy about it.
Thats interesting. I was under the impression that the T7 engine management would limit boost to stock levels even if a bigger turbo, or other upgrades allowing for more boost were installed.
In fact, since the TD04 is bigger and spools slower, I would have expected the car would feel slower once the TD04 was installed, not faster, until the software was updated.
This is - of course - as long as your old turbo was in good working order...

My GT17 was in bad shape a lot of shaft play and one of the studs were broken off. So that made my car feel weird but since there is no more leak man it feels awsome even though it take a little while for the turbo to spool.

So are you going to replace the full ECU or can you just reprogram the existing one? Maybe a custom tune of your ECU would be both cheaper and more effective than just dropping an Aero ECU in there.

Well, by putting a Aero ECU in there you are going to be pushing it harder. No getting away from that.
Here is what I am thinking:
A lpt with a TD04 and Aero software is not an Aero. There are different internal engine oarts and stuff as well, if I am not mistaken.
I would try to get a custom ECU tune instead. You'd likely gain the same (if not more) power than just adding an Aero ECU, without risking as much strain on your engine.
Not sure about custom tunes in the U.S. I believe they usually have them at big events like Springtime in Sweden, and Swedish Car Day.
In the U.K there's Maptun, don't know if they do any business over here though. I'm sure someone else on here knows better than I.

Also, if you aren't after the extra power, I believe you can just leave it the way it is and it will run just fine Though getting a power bump out of it would be nice, wouldn't it?

Well I just figured broken turbo stud. Very annoying noise at startup, especially in the mourning on those cold days. Plus I didnt want to take the chance of getting a used GT17 because I didnt want to have to change it again. Plus I know the TD04 last a very long time so I am not worried about that right now. I just like it for my everyday simple driving. At least I know that the power is there if a situation ever comes up.
get the Aero ECU at least. You were probably not getting full boost due to the boost leak you had not a bad turbo.. anyway you could get a used stage II or so ECU and put tha tin there fo r600 or less.
Don't worry bout the miles the engine can handle at least the Aero ecu and will probably handle the stage III fine.

The linear tune actually makes more torque in the lower gears than the aero does. I drove around like this for a while and it was a lot of fun squealing the tires. I would upgrade to the aero computer if you're worried about longevity. In some ways its a little bit more subdued but I still think it was the right way to go...

The torque is restricted in the lower gears ordinarily. My thought is that the gt17 needs more pressure to meet that "excessive power" threshold. Thus if we put a larger turbo on there, the pressure will be put to better use with a larger compressor wheel and t7 won't limit the power band by dumping boost.
On my setup with the aero tune 1st will squeal the tires pretty badly. going into 2nd it bogs down. 3rd and 4th the power comes back again and you really start to feel the high end. One can hit 100 coming out of 3rd a bit too easily.

I don't know who reflashes stuff but I know Nick at GS said he did at one time. Honestly I would just get a Aero ECU and install it with a Tech2. I don't think you can get any cheapier than that. Also if you purchase a used Staged ECU you might run into problems. Because most people have Staged ECU's to met there stock setups. LPT with a GT17 and a Aero with a TD40 not a LPT with a TD04.
