its been a while since my last post i been very busy doing admin stuff on our game servers and such like,
but still enjoying my Saab very much
but i now need new pads,,, is there anything new out there, rather than the stock option? my last set where black diamond, ok but i was not that impressed with them other than they seems to run quiet clean, (not much Dust)
any surrgestions most welcome as mine are about to fall off
Ive gone from Pagid Fast Road to EBC Red Stuff and the only real difference can feel at the moment is "cold " braking is worse. Brake dust hasnt lessened much either. Could be that Ive still got standard discs though.
Performance Friction 05 compound or Ferrodo DS2500 as they both have a pretty constant coefficent of friction from cold to more temp than you'll put in them with a road car.
PF probably won't list a pad for the 9-5 but if five of you want a set I'll put you in touch with a chap at PF UK in Northants who will sort out producing some for you.
what a reat responce ! and why this community and forum cant be beat also hi to Chris i see you have done some more things to the Godfarther hehe, she's lookin mint mate.
well i got plenty to go for now thanks again guys, Redstuff are looking the best bet for me so far,
one other thing would any one know how to remove the wing mirror glass with put breaking it ,,,, i have tried one time at a scrap yard, and it just cracked :-( maybe its designed that way but i need one for my offside,
but thanks for the help it is lovely to be posting again
I have redstuff all round, they took a fair while to bed in but seem to be getting better. They do give a firmer feeling and I havent detected the slightest fade.
i disagree mate. i used ebc's in my cosworth with good results. not much better bite but no fade! very useful because 6ft shorter in stopping is the differance between a new front end or brown pants! however nothing prepered me for 330mm grooved rotors and 4 pot calipers!! truely mind bending stopping power, and will be my next Saab upgrade

Let me put it this way. Quite a while ago we had a sponsor that was a company who makes colourful brake pads. As a result part of the agreement was that our race car had colourful pads in it........... we ended up buying a pot of yellow paint and painting Ferrodo DS3000's yellow because what we had weren't just costing us points they were risking our drivers. I know for a fact that compound hasn't changed since then.
If you mix blue and yellow and happened to have a brake pad in the resulting colour it'll fall apart as soon as it gets some proper heat cycles through it. The colour at the beginning of the popular childrens song about rainbows is no better, I'd love to know how they justify "effective upto 750 degrees C", effective as in it still touches the rotor? ...........
Best friction material we've used is made by Performance Friction, add to that they bend over backwards to sort us out trackside. Very close second is the Ferrodo range of DS friction material which is a bloody good option for a road car as its easily available and doesn't eat rotors/discs.
Thing is if you change a knackered pad for a new pad then chances are it'll feel and work better. Whether that means its actualy better than xxxx pad is a different matter!
At the end of the day whats in there as standard on anything modern has passed a massive amount of durability and performance testing. If its in good order it'll work time and time again from cold without fail.
i found red stuff on-line and would like to buy them but i have seen conflicting part numbers, can some one tell me the differance between the two, part numbers, both are listed as for the Saab 9-5 (Vauxhall)
i think maybe its fornt and rear part numbers but not 100% sure
This is what I ordered for my 2000 Aero and they went on no problems. I also was confused and compared a few different places for part numbers and questioned the online retailer. EBC Redstuff Brake Pads DP31405C

I just don't like the stock pads cause they're soft and don't give me good feedback.
