View Full Version : Glove Box Lamp
I'm curious. In the slick sales brochure for the 2007 9-7X is picture of the glove box with a caption that states it is a lockable glove box with a courtesy light. I do not have a light in my glove box. Do You? If not, it seems rather strange that a $40,000 vehicle would lack this convenience.

Another cost cutting feature, ugh? I wonder if it was available in the 2005 or 2006 models and can just be added on with a switch and a few pieces (lamp, etc)? It can't cost that much, no? Any owners of a 2005 or 2006 have this in there 9-7? Please look and if possible post a picture or two. Thanks in advance. Ben

Any clue what the part numbers are and how it's wired and installed? Also, another handy place for a light would be the center arm rest. I have the 9-7 in black over black and it is dark inside.

i'll try to remember to have a look next time, mines black with the tan leather so it doesn't look so dark....i thought it was too dark overall for the whole vehicle with black on black myself...

If possible, please post a picture or describe where the light is located in the glove box as well as any part numbers...when did they stop including it standard. Sounds silly that they would stop adding it. My car is dark in the interior so, it would be useful. Also, a light in the arm rest is not uncommon. I mean, seriously...how much could it have cost in building it?! I want to add this, please help. It can't be that hard...lamp, plus a switch/plunger to activate it. Correct?

Been meaning to reply to this one...better late then never.
Once again I find myself saying Huh???
Neither my wife's 2005 9-7X nor my 2006 9-7X have a glovebox light.
Chiller has a Canadian 2006 Saab 9-7X 5.3
Maybe the 5.3 models have it, or maybe the difference is with the Canadian models?

one thing that is stupid about the canadian spec models, i can't turn off the headlights manually even if i wanted to ... it doesn't allow me to do that, everything is auto so the on / off switch on the stalk is non functioning i think it said so in the manual too ... LOL

I have an '08 5.3i from Boston. To my knowledge that is US :cheesy:
No glovebox light. My wife did notice the passanger light does light up the glovebox just fine however. Perhaps that's why they dropped it.
Pretty el cheapo in my opinion however for a $40k+ vehicle.

If anybody finds the part numbers, I might try the swap. My dad has a 2002 Bravada. It's interesting how many of the features got dropped over the years. His included the glove box light and rain sense wipers. I think there may have been a few more things which disappeared as well.

I upgraded from an 02 Bravada AWD to an 06 9-7x 5.3i in Dec. 08. With the 9-7x I lost the glove box light, Rain Sense wipers (bothers me) and didn't see a cargo mat included either. There are definitely a handful of 9-7x improvements, such as HID/Xenon/Projector headlamps, refined suspension/improved ride, lower to the ground, center console mildly improved (my right knee doesn't hit it), Painted Body Side Mirrors + Clear Turn Signal Lenses included and last but not least upgraded Leather Seats (the bolsters are firmer and overall comfort is much improved).
Removing an inexpensive glove box light on a $40k+ vehicle just puzzles me. Knowing GM the wiring harness remained the same and the connector for the glove box light was taped up somewhere behind the dash?
