I know that the GMC Denali and Chevy Tahoe are related to the 9-7. I see on the GMC website that they make a wood/leather steering wheel and it has the buttons on it as well as the buttons for the Driver Information Center, which on the Saab is located under the center vents. Here is a link to the page with it on
http://www.gmc.com/envoy/denali/specsInterior.jsp I was wondering if the wood colors match that of the Saab and the steering wheel could be used. I don't care if the buttons on the lower spokes are functional and the airbag w/Saab logo could be swapped (they appear to be the same size). Does anyone know if this could work or if not, if there is either an OEM or aftermarket wood/leather steering wheel for the 9-7. I think it would look great, no?

SAAB Austin states otherwise - NO..... Let us know if you find out differently in your research

I figured that would be too easy...I priced it out, MSRP from a GMC dealer is $510, not including airbag module. I wonder why they are not interchangeable? I would like to look into this further/double check...all too often the standard answer from Saab is that "it can't be done" either because they do not know or do not want to be bothered.

Also, about 8 years ago, I owned a Mercedes Benz and there was an aftermarket company that made wood/leather steering wheels for models that did not come that way from the factory. Does anyone know of a company that could make the wheel? With the company I used 8 years ago, they would basically swap your steering wheel for one that they made and you would send the OEM one back (they would charge a deposit so that you would return the old wheel and include all the packing material and once they received it you would get the deposit back). Their work was beautiful and color matched the wood perfectly. I believe it was called Precision Auto Parts, but they only do work for MB and I do not know if they are still in business.

I came across this website that makes aftermarket wooden steering wheels for GMC and Chevy trucks. Except for the extra control buttons on the bottom of the wheel, this looks like it could work. I wonder if they could make a version applicable to the 9-7...I think it would add a nice finishing touch, no?
