Turned in my 06 97x 6 cyl for an Aero and this version is just a much better truck even beyond the increase in horsepower. The steering and handling is just much better. Basically, the Aero tweaking gets this platform as car like as it can go. Only gripe after three weeks was a rattling cargo shade solved by inserting a small amount of gray window insulation into the bracket.

Good to hear and welcome to Saab Central! What's the first modification going to be? :)

Sounds like a heck of a deal! I'm paying 600 a month on my 6cyl (purchase). Oh, and I'm still upside down two years in with no end in sight! Might have to look into a lease in the future.

How about one of those Air Tornadoes for gas mileage...I can't imagine you are getting any better than 13 mpg?
LOL..."If I were a rich man lalalalalalalalala..."

Yep less than 13 mpg but luckily I still don't seem to be filling up any more than with my 06 so I don't feel it in the wallet just yet. The exhaust note is my favorite thing so far. I also like the tire monitor feature which wasn't on my 06. The end of December was a good time to lease. Over 3g on leases if a returning customer and four months lease pull ahead. I also got the gms price on top through my mother which really is what made it a no brainer.
So, the aero uses the Trail Blazer SS 5.3L then? I am not saying its a trail blazer, but they still use the same parts, hence the question.

Nope the Aero uses the LS2 6.0 Liter from the vette. Much more power and torque.

Less than 13 mpg?
That's just insane...
I have about the same HP and more torque, but I get 32-34 on the highway....
But, then again...I can't haul a boat.

Its too early to tell what my average mpg will be. I only have 800 miles on it and little highway driving. My commute is short otherwise I probably would have made a different choice.

Trailblazer SS uses LS2 also.
I always wondered how the handling would be like in a "sporty" suv.... Did GM do anything suspension wise?

Beyond normal 9-7x suspension mods from other GMT360s, the Aero has larger tires (20inches). Otherwise suspension same as other 9-7x.
Rated 12 city 13 highway, not bad considering my 190hp discovery was 14 city 17 highway

The SS has used the 6.0L since 2006, i dont think the SS was availible before then.

I had a 97x before the Aero and they have done more than just tires. Drives differently and better in every way.

Based on Saab website and 2008 9-7x sales guide, no additional suspension improvements beyond the larger tires listed. But since you own one, I won't doubt you.
The Aero gets a HD rear axle to handle all that torque, as well as a revised axle ratio. The shocks are also recalibrated.

Uhhhh, not to question you, but if you are getting 32-34mpg you are not driving an Aero with an LS2 high performance engine. These bad boys pump out 400hp and if you can get 18mpg with this engine you are extremely lucky. On the flip side, it does not matter how hard you push it, you will get 13mpg all day, every day.
You must be in a 6 cylinder and I assure you that you do not have anywhere near the HP as the LS2. If you doubt that I got a long empty stretch of road waiting. Just bring your glasses so that you can read my rear plate for the few seconds that they are visible to you as I pull away.
I actually have a 440 whp car that gets over 30 mpg on the highway. The Aero serves a wholly different purpose though and I wouldn't trade my 9-7X for my S2000 or my S2000 for my 9-7X. (I would love to have a LS2 or LS3 in it though...)
The sales material for the earlier model years describe the suspension modifications for the 5.3i and Aero. They have stiffer shocks and springs and I believe they may also be a bit lower. Their brakes and suspension are either very similar to or identical to the TBSS.

One more comment. I have seen mention of suspension upgrades from the 4.2i to the 5.3i, but never anything suggesting the Aero has a different suspension from the 5.3i (other than the 20" wheels).

i have read this somewhere as well .. can't remember where ...
when I was buying, I tested both the 6 and the 5.3, besides the engine there was 'some' difference in the drive, not a whole lot in my opinion but some...
Wife and I have been shopping for a new car, baby coming + two dogs already.
Friend of mine has a 2006 trailblazer SS, and that thing is balls! smokes my 9-3ss, off the line at least, and the trailblazer is nice ride too. I'd actually consider a trailblazer, but don't wanna look like every other soccer mom out there
I may just look around at one of these, glad I saw this thread.
