First of all I would like to thank everyone for there help with my saab problems. Here is my latest and reoccuring dilemma. For the past two months I have been experiencing extreme vibration problems in the front right wheel. I have so far changed the entire axle assemby:evil:, that wasn't fun. I checked all the rims and tires for proper balance. I even switched in the spare to see if I could locate a bent rim. Nothing helped. Could this be the output bearing in the transmission? Would the hub bearing cause a rotational vibration? I also was wondering if the strut mount could cause the vibration? Any help would be greatly apprecited.
I like the good old-fashioned spin balance - a man can see exactly what is going on..
Yes, if the strut hydraulics are "dry" (no fluid) uncontrolled bounce, shake, and vibration will occur....The car will also shake and shimmy if the joints are completely shot...Both of these scenarios are unlikely.
A bent wheel or defective tire are much more possible.
The tire is brand new and I watched them spin the tire when it was getting balanced. With the kind of vibration that I am getting I would think that I could see that while it was being balanced. I tried the spare tire on both front wheels one at a time and it still had the same vibration issues with the spare on.
If the shimmy occurs at 50-60 mph, it is wheel/tire related.
If it is at 40 mph, or so , then check out other spinning masses (rotors, joints, axles.)
This is a hard one, and will require expertise far greater than mine.
The Road Force 8700 sees to be the only way to go....with todays cars.
The old cars just needed a bubble balance...
The vibration starts at about 15mph and gets worse as I go. I just replaced my rotors and the axle assembly that I put on only had about 15,000 miles on it. I have never taken the struts or springs off to exam them but I might. Where can I find a road force 8700.
I would check the wheels again to be safe. If you have them roadforce balanced and the shake remains you know for certain it isn't the wheel.
I am having almost the exact same problem right now; and it is really weird. Try engine and tranny mounts as well. Does your shake go away if you let off the gas and coast?
The shake goes away somewhat when I let off the gas and coast. It is still pretty loud even when I do that. The only relief I get is when I am turning right, like when I am on a freeway entrance at speed. Thank you much
That was a joke question right? I'm sure he has one right beside his Siemens CNC lathe machine which is beside the washer and dryer. In a way - yes....I imagine that the Road Force can run $10 grand.. Has anyone ever tried a spin balance on a FWD vehicle ?? ? I think this would have to be done very, very carefully... Maybe if both wheels were spun simultaneously..
Thanks. Sounds and feels like everything is off balance. I will get the road force balance done and go from there.
