Headlight relay for 2003 9-3 Convertible

I need a headlight relay for my 2003 9-3 Convertible in order to pass inspection. Dealer wants $180.00 for it, but I have seen it as an aftermarket part for less than $30.00. The dealer relay is orange, the aftermarket is grey. How do I know the aftermarket will work in my car? And how can I try it and not blow up other stuff? Anybody else ever bought an aftermarket headlight relay?

headlight relay repair

Wow, I sent this to my dad who fixes everything and doesn't believe in paying anyone to do anything - EVER. I am driving down for x-mas and am hoping he can do the job then. Thanks for the tip. I would still like to know if anyone has ever bought an aftermarlet relay - you know just incase the soldering doesn't work.

Your dad is a man who's type I admire...- I hope this is correct..:cheesy:
I just hope he still has the necessary steady hand - particularly for this job..
eEuroParts does not seem to handle this relay, maybe Parts for Saabs does ....
And I hope you follow in you dad's footsteps.. A good DIY can save a fortune over a lifetime.

Headlight relay repair

I tend to do some easy repairs and maintenence myself. When I was younger and had simpler cars I did more work myself. I would lay underneath my old 83 Escort and replace the exhaust. My dad and I even rebuilt the engine together and replaced the head gasket on several of the family cars - his truck, mom's mini van and my escort. Today I have no interest beyond brakes, oil changes, and simple tune ups. I leave the real knuckle busting work to my dad or SAAB dudes. I just am not real interested anymore in saving the money as I am in just getting it done. Unfotunately, my dad is in NC and I am in PA, so big repairs are saved for holiday visits. OK and all you guys will laugh at this, but the girly girl I am just doesn't want to break my nails anymore!!! But for a girl, I tend to know more about cars than a lot of guys I meet so that's cool. But I am not one for specs. People ask me questions about my car and I am clueless. A lot of that is because there is no Chilton manual for a 2003 9-3 SAAB. Ahh what a great reference the old Chilton's were for all my other cars - what my family refers to as the bible!! Now I have a DVD to refer too.

haynes manual

The Hayne's manual is not available for my car, nor is there a Chilton Book. That's why I had to buy the DVD from Europe. But thanks! I may be a girl but I am not clueless!! You should check the Hayne's site and you will see that Saab is not even a choice in the pull down menu. On a search it will bring up one book that is not the year or model of my car. You see, like I said - there is no book. And Saab doesn't sell the DVD anymore - you have to buy it - from Europe - online. FYI for anyone who wants a Saab Repair Manual for a 2003 model Saab or newer.

Ah, but there is a manual. I have the same car as you and here you go:

It's the last selection. :)

The last book is listed wrong - it only goes to 2002. Do you have the actual book?? Why isn't it listed on the Hayne's website?
Negatron, it covers the 03 CV. The reason is because our 03 CV is a carry over model from 02, not part of the 03 sedan line up. (ie, i dont believe there are any different parts from the 02 to 03 CV model. :D

I ordered mine from the same place,Trixie, and saved some money:cheesy:
You may have been looking at the Haynes -USA site rather than the Haynes -UK (England)... The 2003 convertible is a leftover 2002.. When PMI gathers more info and then published his manual, it will be quite something ! In fact it is quite the thing now.

Think of your US 2003 93 CV as a 2002 model.. then youll do fine.
(If it looks like this one: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1999-to-2002-saab-9-3.htm )

If it looks like this one: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2004-saab-9-3.htm it's either a 2004 or from another country.

Oh and thanks for stealing "negatron", tell your friends where you got it. LOL
