02 9-3 Convert, 67K miles, been babied and serviced it's entire life. Suddenly and without warning tranmission lets go. Looking at $3K repair bill.
Common problem? Should have known not to buy A/T? Who knows, but the love affair is over. Beutiful car, fun to to drive, but not worth the price tag to keep it on the road. She's heading toward the auction block ASAP.
Thanks for letting me get it all out.
Really sorry to hear that bud. Did you ask around here on repairs for it, or possibly finding a donor tranny? A working car would auction a lot better than a non-drivable one would... It would probably be worth it if you can put in a tranny for around $1000; and get $3000-$4000 in value at the auction?
The auto trans actually has a better reputation than the manual.
A used auto transmission is about $400-500 (check car-part.com). Installation should be about the same. Shop around, total repair cost, less than $1000, (and I am being generous).
Those prices are crazy! I agree, 1000$ should get you a used one installed. My auto just went a 151,000 miles, but I had other problems. Good luck, and always haggle with the shop.
Ahhh, a reman direct from Saab would cost you a bunch. It should be less if they rebuild your existing one. More like 2000$. How much is the rebuilt from Saab?
If it makes you feel any better a place in Morristown rebuilt my 9000's tranny a few years back. Total bill was $2300 with labor. No problems so far but for the money I'd rather had one from Saab.
