Was the 2.5 L GM v6 used in any other models besides Cadillac Catera? Do the GM cars with this engine use the same accesories (fuel injection system, ECU) as in the Saab?
Core components are the same and the mounting points for sensors, manifolds and suchlike remain the same even if the outward design differs. So a FWD 2.5 can be replaced with a RWD mounted 3.2 unit [obviously you turn it through 90 degrees to transverse mount] but you transfer over all the fixtures and fittings from the 2.5 [even the timing cover!]. The 2.5 ecu can adapt with ease to the increased swept volume.
Saturn Vue is another car with an 3litre L81 engine I think.
The 2.5 is as common as muck in Europe but rare in the Americas and down under, the 3.0 dominates elsewhere as is readily available from a variety of platforms.
