I've had a small pinging for about a year now. It's only just off idle and goes away under load and if I burn premium gas. I've tried all the major brands of gas with no cure. I've burned Cheveron regular 95% off it's 42k life. My local dealer said it's the gas, but maybe crank sensor or something with the timing advance? help!

All, and I mean ALL, GM small blocks have audible piston slap at and around idle. It's normal, Saab dealers don't know this, though.
And considering that these small blocks have been known to go 250,000+ miles without even changiing the plugs, I wouldn't worry.

It goes away when I run premium gas though. It's a ping (light when I thought advancing my timing on my 71 240Z +15 deg :) not a knock sound.
Please leave a note if you have noticed the same thing.
