With a new dog and new child in the family, the wife and I are starting to look for something a bit larger than our 2003 Subaru Forester. I went on Edmunds and did a comparison between the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Saab 9-7X.

If you use the "Comparator," and you look at the crash test ratings, it says the GM-branded models got 5 stars on driver, passenger, and side impacts front and rear. The Saab 9-7X got 3 stars on driver, 4 on passenger, and side impact "not tested."

Is there a reason for this? Is the crash test for the Saab based on an older model?

I'd think since they're structurally similar, their crash results would be as well. Any thoughts?

Ah... I just realized my error... I thought the 9-7X was based on the Lambda platform... Didn't know it was actually a Trailblazer (which has the same crash scores as the 9-7X).

I would've deleted this thread if a "delete thread" button was available to users. :)

Sorry...

The 9-7x has a better roll-over rating (less chance of it actually happening). And should have a better all over rating since curtain side air-bags are standard. The dummy hit its head on the B-pillar during the frontal crash test with the TB.

If you want a large safe saab for the family, I would look into a 9000. You would be surprised how large the interior actually is.

its seriously really big on the inside, and they have great crash test ratings. Theres a few videos on saabhistory.com that show them getting crashed.

The 9000 also has much better gas mileage and the Aero version is known for ear to ear smiles! It's also a REAL Saab.

The 9000 shares underpinnings with Lancia. Doesn't it?

Yes it does, if you mean the platform (along with a Peugeot I believe).

As I recall, the platform was designed by a consortium of the three companies, but that's where the similarities ended. Each applied their own sheet metal, interior and components so they were completely different cars vs. a rebadged vehicle. Perhaps the fact that 'three heads are better than one' made the 9000 such a great car? Wished I'd owned one!

Unfortunately, new test results were released today and they're not good. I'll start a new topic about it.

The chassis work was mostly done by Fiat, and all four of the cars on that chassis - The Fiat, the Lancia, the Saab and the Alfa - have door skins that are interchangable. The 9000 was designed by an Italian, too.

When I was looking for a new SUV, I found most every Envoy and Trailblazer did not have the "optional" side curtain air bags. I would find one with leather, a sun roof, maybe even a dvd and then I would check the airbags and sure enough...no airbags. I'm so happy about getting my 9-7, this is my second one.
I love the Saab because you can't get them without the airbags and most things are standard plus awd. Plus a better warranty 4 yr 50k vs 3 36k. It's also lowered and I believe that gives it a better chance of not rolling over unlike the other trailvoys.
