: G's got a Ruby as well now!!!

To cut a long story short, a neighbour who I have always seen in a 1994 Ruby, approached me last week with first refusal on his car as a result of him needing an estate (its ok, he's got a 9-5 Wagon..... he has had a 94 in the past too ;) )

So anyway, I agreed to buying the car last nite, despite no test drive on account of the car being boxed in by his neighbour who was away, but the price was right, it has pretty much a full service history, had the head gasket replaced 6 months ago with a full head service too....

A few bad points are a hole with a rubber bung on the exact opposite side where the aerial sits (almost as if someone had a stupid moment in the factory), scuffs on the bumpers, a rusty front left wheel arch, and a worn drivers seat

Pics will follow tonight when I take full ownership, but all in all, a very good buy

Work for the future will be no more than repainting the bumpers, a full detail of paint and trim (its been sat stationry for a month or so), fixing the rusty arch, and possible retrim of the drivers seat (anyone know where a good source of the Zenga Wool material inserts may be found?)

All in all i am very happy

in a word... nice

she defiantely needs a good detail - there is dirt on dirt, spiders webs and moss galore (its been standing for 3 months) - but overall, good!

ive had a chance to look closer at the rust on the wheel arch, and it is quite bad, but not so bad as to unfixable. i cant see how far its penetrated up into the weheel well/inner arch area, but from the outside, it looks like it hasnt traveled further than the curve from the plastic trim to the vertical... ie, its not reached the vertical section under the bonnet

does anyone know where might source some material to repair the Zegna wool inserts?

i really am in 2 minds to either keep it, or sell to either Mum who wants a new one (i would probably inherit her red LPT Aero), or sell it on to make some cash...?

suggestions dudes....;)

I will wash her to make her presentable, then post up some pics

Could you not just remove the stuffing from another seat and use that? Bet that's the one thing you did'nt think of taking before you got rid of the old 8v:D

What mileage is on the Ruby?

G - I'm not promising anything, but I have a mate whose step father owns a very regarded textiles factory in Halifax. They do one-offs for "all the Hollywood stars ... etc ... yadda yadda yadda" ... well ... they do! Can you send me a macro photograph of a good part of the seat and I'll see what can be done. I do need a really good photograph in very high resolution for one of their specialists to match threads, colours and weave.

It will need to be a reasonable production run, so we'll need a good number of Ruby, GT Aero and "Last Edition" owners to do a group buy, I'm sure, but I'll see (a) if they can do the job and (b) what the price is.

Congrats on the car, BTW - very nice!

Does he do Dreylon (sp?)? For the 99T interiors :)

Orca - i will see what I can do picture-wise, but we only have sh!tty little digital camara's at work, i think the best is a 7 megapixel used for when we are on site and writing environmental reports etc, but it may have a macro setting

Si - its the actual material that has worn thru - mileage is 118K

Issues noted so far:

there is a bit of play in the steering column... I thought it was just the steering wheel nut a bit loose, as the wheel can sort of slide up its shaft towards you (dont worry, it feels totally safe), however its not. Is there a bush somewhere that is likely to be worn?

while running fine, occasionally when accelerating she coughs a splutters a bit, then catches again..... this has got bad enough on one occasion to leave me stranded.... when it did this, it ran and ticked over ok, but giving some gas and lifting the clutch to pull away it would cut out again. after a few minutes, she was fine again..... im thinking fuel filter could be blocked?

there is a slight blow on the exhaust as well....

all this aside, she is lovely, just needs a good bath

Would be definitely be nice to sample the ruby, but I doubt I'll have time to honest dude.
I'm 4 days away from leaving Liverpool, and have been working like a madman trying to get the 99 MOT'd so I can leave in it (which is why you aint seen me :p )

By the way, I've left the flat nose airflow skirts under Saaberella cos I can't make em fit the 99. I reckon you should use them to "face-drop" the ruby and give it a stub nose:cool:

No face drop for a Ruby :o

Nice find G :cheesy: Rubarella :)

Spluttering: check the TPS is doing what it should be. Could be there's no acceleration fuel enrichment.

Full detail, fix the easy stuff and sell on! !

PICS! :cheesy:

jeeez - doesnt rain but it pours....

today, through a process of elimination, i think i tracked down the stutter to a knackered AMM. great i thought, went for blast, embarassed a bmw e36 convertable with 2x3" tailpipes (well, didnt actually need me to do that, but hey, happy to oblige mate ;) ), then blew the coupler of the throttle body :o

easy fix, so i set off again, only for it to sound like im doing some gravel driving ( iwasnt)... stoped on the motorway, had a look, the aircon belt had obliterated itself and was in about 10 peices, wrapped around lots of stuff, and had pulled the power steering belt off too (still in one peice... thank god)

NEVER do i want to drive a c900 without power steering :o

all fixed, but i need a full belt set - but i wonder what might be next :o

Kack :) ;)

I'm glad the air con belt didn't rip off the water pump belt because then you would have been stranded.

well, its not different in the flesh... some of the car appears to have had a re-laquer, and the bonnet has been painted, but the door is definately original :p

just noticed Her hair matches the car too (i feel when she spots that fact, i'll be getting it in the neck to keep this one and sell Saabarella :o )

VikingSpirit

I reckon Keep the ruby, and give Saaberella the time off get your engine gearbox swap done properly, you can get a gearbox reconditioned and get the original engine recomissioned like you wanted then...

personally, id rather get Saabarella down there... ive done a run in Ruby at the weekend (300miles to Vanfest 2007 (http://www.vanfest.org/index.asp)) and she was faultless, so mechanically i am happy to pass her on as she is..... Saabarella on the other hand, will benefit from a good run and TLC after her second "hibernation" this year

actually, a drop in posts is more to do with work being more of bind recently, and everyone looking over your shoulder at what you are doing
